Okay, basically on Barron's tests i'm getting like a 1800.... My goal is a 2300+. I am rising Junior and basically have 4 months to prepare for the PSATs/SATs. I need to do well. Right now, my main issues are or at least according to the BB: Long passage CR where i got most of my points off in CR. I usually only get 0-1 wrong on the SC. Math.... i'm getting destroyed by Barrons. Writing... is utterly abysmal..... How do i improve these sections? any tips and books i should get? I am considering getting DH but i am afraid that a new edition will be released soon. I currently have the first version of the BB with 8 tests and the Barrons SAT writing book.... will this suffice or?

bump 10 charrr

AHHHHHHH!!! barrons practice tests!!! they are way harder than the real thing.

Take a bb test for an accurate score.
Use the old book for now, then when a new one comes out, buy the second edition.

try the bb practice tests. they are the nearest to the actual test.

Also, you have plenty of time so take every practice test and review it carefully.

Strengthen your weaknesses in math by learning new concepts and practice them, also know the common grammar mistakes and practice them.

For passages, read hard novels and stories. I recommend Edgar Alan Poe’s stories and while reading try to think about the tone of the writer, the purpose of the story, and the point of view of the writer.

thanks! now what bout books? will a new DH version be coming out soon or? what? and what other practice books should i get for the various subjects since i basically need help in all of them.

I doubt a new version of DH will be out before you take the PSAT since the one out right now is already called “2010 Edition”.

I’ve heard that Grubber’s is good for math. I have the book, but I really didn’t look much at the math content…I used it more for practice. The practice tests were actually a bit harder than the SAT, but they really help you because that way you’re overprepared for the easy questions and ready to tackle the harder ones.

I’m not so sure about writing, because grammar has never been any issue for me. I’m sure any SAT grammar book would do. Then for your writing, I would honestly just look around here on CC at writing tips people have given in the past. That’s your best bet.

Critical reading…well, for vocabulary Direct Hits is great. Grubber’s has a HUGE list of words, so if you have time try to go through that list and see how many you can memorize in a given amount of time. Make it like a game (that’s what I did). For reading comprehension strategies…I don’t really know. I think you can use the Blue Book to help you understand what College Board commonly asks on the CR section. Maybe even look at Grammatix: they put together a decent guide for the critical reading section. Rocket Review? These are just some things I’ve heard have been good on CC. Reading comprehension wasn’t really a problem for me though.

yeah… i think my best bet would be to take a BB test and gauge my progress from that. I’ll do that tomorrow after i finish my Barrons test.

wow retook it on the normal BB test… 2000…what to do?
