He's doing Urban Plunge and move in was yesterday! I can't believe how smoothly it all went! Move in was scheduled from 10-1...we got to McMahon Hall at 9:35-9:40ish and there was a spot RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE BUILDING!!! I know Manhattan and the chances of finding a spot on the street near where you want to be and I was a little worried about how this all would go but it couldn't have been any more perfect.

S got on the ResLife check-in line (they opened at 9:45am) while we unloaded the car onto the sidewalk then H moved the car to a parking garage. S was around 10th in line, came out with a cart, we loaded it and waited for them to call him in for his key and to go up. An Urban Plunge leader helped each person carry their things in and get inside the apartment so we only needed 2 trips with the cart...BIG difference between what boys brought and what girls brought. Then it was time to unpack. My S is the only one of 5 in his apt doing urban plunge so we were able to spread out everywhere and take our time deciding where everything should go.

We had some time to walk around the neighborhood and get something to eat and it was a beautiful day so we went to Central Park to relax. We left at 2:45pm just before the Urban Plunge program began...we were really happy leaving my S at Fordham yesterday and we know he's made the right choice!

Good luck to all moving in tomorrow both at LC and RH! Hope everyone has a similarly great experience! :)

I’m glad you had an easy move in experience with urban plunge! my roommate is a UPA (urban plunge assistant) and was really excited about the freshman class when she came back to the room last night from doing night excursions with them to pinkberry.

also, i hope you’re coming back on sunday for the family reception! this is a great last chance to get answers to any questions you might have from the OLs before leaving your son, as well as a chance just to see what his fellow classmates are like, and maybe even meet Father Grimes (the dean of FCLC).

ramfan2013, please tell your roommate how impressed we were with how everything was handled yesterday and how welcome we all felt. I got a text from my S this morning that read “I’m so meant to live here!”

We are coming back tomorrow for the reception and Mass! It will be nice to meet his roommates and their families and say hello to Fr. Grimes. It might be a bit harder to say goodbye tomorrow BUT he’s coming home 9/26 for the season premiere of Dexter! No Showtime at LC, right?

Congrats on making it sandkmom! Let us know what he thought of Urban Plunge and orientation! What did you think? Did you get everything you needed? Is he all settled? I’m glad he feels at home, I’m sure he will have an awesome year!

He loved Urban Plunge and wants to be a UPA next year! So far so good at orientation. He’s texted me and he definitely feels he’s among “his people.” I think he’s pretty settled in BUT some of his suitemates said they were bringing some things for the apartment and didn’t so guess who’s sending stuff in today. Thankfully my H works in the area so it’s not that big a deal but I am seriously considering going back in this weekend to make sure they have everything they need and bring in some more food, supplies, etc. I’m going to ask him what he thinks because I don’t want to overstep here BUT I am a mom and so I’m just going to have to make sure everyone is ok! :)
