The admissions office is holding a reception/meeting with the local alumni interviewers on December 12th. Given that, I think it's very unlikely that the adcoms won't have made decisions by that point. They spend late evenings in the committees when making decisions, and it would seem to be a nuisance for them to set up and host a big meeting with alumni if they were still in the process of making decisions.

I don't know anything official and anything more than what I've posted here, but I'd predict that ED results are issued before Dec. 12th.

Ahhhh, so soon... Thanks for the info!!!

thx for the note..

Thanks for the insider info.

And that means its less than two weeks; anyone else really nervous/anxious? =P

Thank you! :)

I think I am going to call the admissions office tomorrow to ask when the results will be out. Bad idea?

:) thanks

that actually makes me wonder.... are they already making decisions? i hope this isnt the case as my nov test scores came out today and they will help me greatly.

I'm pretty sure it'll come out on the 8th. Last year it was that Thursday (the 8th), this year it'll be Friday. And yea, I'll probably call tomorrow to see if they decided but chances are they will simply tell you they don't know.

I actually called today to ask, and they did exactly what truazn said they would. Waiting, waiting, waiting..... waiting. Anyone else want to just infiltrate the admissions building?

urg this thing is driving me crazy...(as if i were just a step away from opening that email..)

oh btw.. i also hope it's the 8th.. if i remember correctly such was the case two years ago too, no?

Probably a number of applicants will benefit from having November SATs or SAT IIs considered... Does anyone have any insight into whether a student or a GC should contact the Columbia admissions office (or any other admissions office at a competitive ED/EA school) to nudge along those scores?

Any insight into how automatically and how quickly the latest (i.e., November) SAT/SAT II scores are added to an individual applicant's file ?

It's all automatic and computerized.

Thanks, Columbia (... cue music ... "You Gem of the Forum" ... music fades ...)

It makes sense that it is all computerized... I guess the better question would be: In the case of an applicant whose file/application may have been reviewed PRIOR TO the November scores' release, then what? Does the transmission from Collegeboard automatically trigger a quick second look at a previously-reviewed file? Only if a file had been pegged as borderline? (My apologies because even as I ask this, I realize that the chance of any non-adcom person knowing the answer is fairly remote.)

So, maybe the even BETTER questions (also possibly unanswerable by the "lay" person) would be: (1) When do the adcoms begin assessing the applications in earnest? Before or after they receive November SAT scores? (2) And is there generally a second-look process or a "tickle"-type category for applications that are on the cusp?

Thanks for any information! (Columbia 2002, you have been helpful in the past, as well. TY.)

piglette:

they probably predict your november scores if they dont get them in time (I think MIT does that) and also, a lot of major universities spend the most time arguing over kids on the cusp. those who are automatic ins (which is rare) hardly get any time spent on them.

iismepeter : Thanks for your response.

Maybe I should be yet more specific: What happens for an applicant who is a "maybe," for whom the adcom may have ALREADY considered SAT scores? A significant increase in SAT scores could push a student from "maybe/maybe not" to "maybe/maybe yes," but only if the adcom is definitely aware of the NEW numbers.

(hypothetically... ohh... just choosing a totally(cough)random(cough) set of numbers, for no particular reason that I can think of, I mean just plucking these numbers from thinnest air by complete chance.... uhhh, say that an applicant went from a 2210 SAT I to a 2280 SAT I -- including a 790, a 780, and a 710 in the new, totally-randomly-chosen, example)

(One can see that timing could be quite important, in the case of our completely hypothetical applicant, cough-cough.)

They really don't start discussing the applications in the committee until right about now. The regional admissions officers may have done their initial reads, but the Nov scores are going to be available for full consideration. Otherwise they wouldn't bother accepting them.

This is ludicrous. They're not soothsayers in the business of predicting stuff.

does anyone know if EVERY ED applicant gets an interview? B/c there was some issue with my teacher rec's and they havent contacted me for an interview yet...

No, not even close to every EDer gets an interview.

I have the same concern as piglette. I raised my sat1 from 2120 to 2310 so I want columbia to see it. The good news is on my "Track Your Application" status it shows that my nov scores were "Official, Receipt from tape" So I was just wondering, is this in time for them to be considered for the SEAS ED pool?

yeah freekfyre i have same situation

r3volution thats a good score. mine is still 2100's. i'm probably gonna get rejected with this 51% applicant pool increaese. but yeah your scores will be considered

pretty sure its dec 8

Dont count yourself out with a 2100, thats a respectable score. Plus, writing doesnt count that much and judging from your name you probably got an 800 on math. But that 51% increase definitely sucks though. Man, I just want dec8 to get here quick.
