i got an 800 for verbal, 755 for math, and reading 716. but im applying for 11th grade, so id imagine that the rankings would be different.

and johnathan1, dont wrry about the ssat score, i was actually counting myself lucky if i got an 85% or better. when i practiced at home id score in the 70's lol. oh and for ur other question, i got my scores by email today.

Yeah, when I did my practice tests I got a 75% math, 80% Verbal, and 94% Verbal. They were kind of all over the place. I think I did much better on the real test, though. It seemed a lot easier.

I took a practice test a few days ago and I got:
677 Verbal
792 Math
684.5 Reading

I was just wondering how you average out all the scores. Is it just adding those scores above and divide it by 2400 (the max score)?? or is there something else to it...

They use your Total (mine was 2247) then I think they use ranges for the score. As an example (this is not true at all), they'd maybe do 2240 - 2250 would be a 97 or something ... BUT THAT IS NOT TRUE ... just an example.

Sorry, someone told me earlier that what I had posted as an example was not correct, and so that's why I'm telling you that that is not a true to fact example.

Thanks a lot Olivia, I guess the marking scheme is different every year because I've heard at least 4 ways they calculate your score...
But I calculated my score (2153/5 out of 2400) I get 90%
Thats a huge difference from the 49% I got 4 years ago. Is this 90% a good score for grade 10 admission in Andover? Because I heard that the average student that goes there gets 93's. Does that really matter?

If the average is 93, then that means half of the students are below that. Most students in the 80s or 70s for Andover have major hooks, like alumnus, legacy, etc .... but 90 is VERY good for Andover. If you're solid in everything else, you'll do fine.

What other schools are you applying to?

I don't think we've met before. I'm Olivia. :D

Well, I'm just applying for Andover and thats it. I'm not that serious about going to Prep School and all that and the fact that I don't really want to leave Canada (I live there). I go to an International Baccalaureate school so, my university chances can't be that bad..

Anyway, my name is Chunkei..but everyone just calls me Chunky

Going waaaay back to the original post about the essay and retaking the SSAT... I don't believe the essay figures into your score so don't worry about that. I have a son who is a senior at Exeter ( that is how I found this board-- we are going through the college application nightmare now ) but I also have a son who is applying to Exeter, Andover and GDA ( although, I guess it is now called the "Governors Academy"- old habits die hard!!)
Son #2 scored 96 on the first SSAT but thought he could do better, even though I think a 96 is a perfectly fine score, but if he wanted to take the test again so it was ok with me, he studied a few of the vocab words in the SSAT guide and scored a 99 the second time, he was THRILLED.... mainly because he beat his brothers score!!!!! (by one percentage point on the math section... but that was enough for "bragging rights" ) :)
