My stable job vs. OOS internship

My situation is that I currently have a very amazing and stable job. Pays $17/hr and I work about 20 hours a week. This is enough for me to pay for my tuition, books, gas, everything on my own & no loans since I go to school IS. I love it for a PT college student job!

I will be of junior standing next semester as a journalism (marketing/PR focus) major. I was thinking: would it be worth it to apply for internships OOS?

I've had one semester's experience at a local news station and I currently intern/"work" for a company under the marketing director (i have to talk to a counselor about getting this as a internship credit, otherwise I will be paid for my work). I have amazing references that I think could get me in and even some previous experience in the field. I want to apply somewhere like HBO since I think it would not only look amazing out-of-college but would be an a great and interesting journey.

HBO's internship, along with other OOS internships I looked at along the same lines, is all summer. I'd have to quit my job since they don't let us do leave of absence without emergencies and I don't have enough paid time off hours to use. I can't guarantee that my position will be available when I'm back.

Do you think these internships would be worth losing my job over? It'd be a lot of effort to apply (as I need to get references, LoR, request transcripts, all that) so I was wondering if I should even bother in the first place. Should I apply the summer before my senior year? Thoughts?
