My standardized test scores are holding me back

Long story short, (not to come off as cocky), but I have a decent GPA, top 10% of my class, stellar extracurriculars and leadership positions that show my passion -- but the only thing that is holding me back is my SAT and ACT scores. For the SATs, I've taken them 2 times, both of which I ended up getting in the 1800's. I just took the December ACT without any prep so I completely bombed that due to lack of time management.

I really want to go to a lib arts school; I'm aiming for Williams and Amherst as my reach schools. But, I know I can't compete with my scores. Should I just study harder and retake the SAT's in January?

Also, is Bowdoin a good school? I know they don't accept SAT/ACT scores so that may be a plus for me. I'm just really bad when it comes to standardized testing ah :(

Have you visited Williams or Amherst? I visited Amherst and it was really disappointing to my expectations. So if you’re aiming for those two just because of their statuses as the top of the tippy top of lib-arts, visit them to be sure!

There are plenty of ‘good’ liberal arts schools. Bowdoin is indeed one of them. It is actually one of my top choices!

Start studying.

Try harder. check CC to find the best way to prepare your SAT/ACT. SAT 1800 no where to go, really.

Are you a Junior or a Senior? If you are junior you have time to study and bring that score up.

thank you guys so much for replying  i’m a senior… ah i feel a bit desperate right now. i’ve worked so hard (and i know many others have too) and i don’t want my sat scores to bring me down. i guess i’ll sign up for the january sat’s and try studying everyday. thanks!
