Thanks for the great responses guys. If any of you want to be chanced, just give me the link [=

Solid chance but ecs are a little weak

Really? I always thought that a few ECs with depth were better than several ECs which are done superficially and unrelated to a central story… Anyone else?

MIT - high reach, because they receive some amazing apps - very competitive
CMU - match/probably in due to internship
Cornell - high match to low reach (still an Ivy)
Columbia - mid reach as for anyone
Princeton - high reach as with MIT
UMich - match
Purdue - match
Texas A&M - match

I say as long as you explain your situation, you have just as good a chance as any to achieve your dreams :)

thanks. 10char

Bumpppppppp

MIT- reach (reach for everyone)
Carnegie Mellon University- target

really? i understand that mit and the ivies are reaches but even carnegie mellon?

The Definitleys:Texas A&M, Purdue, UIUC
The Probablys: Carnegie Mellon, Michigan
The 50/50s: Cornell, MIT, Princeton, Columbia

Clearly outline and explain your situation in regards to your mothers situation in relation to your academic performance. You’ll def. stand out with a great essay like that and your excellent SAT score

thanks for your input. I really hate my sat score though haha

Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, MIT, and Carnegie Mellon are the only ones on your list that I see as possible reaches. The rest all seem to be matches or low reaches with your stats. It sounds as if you live in the same area of NJ that my uncle used to, which is a fairly affluent area. That could help adcoms (possible development case).

Also, you have a great hook, so let that come through on your essay!

thanks man. I really hope to get into CMU because of the internship i think its possible. anyone else?

Honestly, your grades are amazing! Applications usually offer a section to talk about screw ups! If I were you, I’d state whatever happened to your mother in that. Its hows that you’re dedicated!
P.S. - Thanks for answering my question =)

no problem ahha. but my grades arent amazing - theyre out of 5, so theyre aweful for the schools im applying to =

The Ivies are obviously slim chances for everyone, so it’s nearly impossible to predict for them, but for CMU, you’re in the 75th percentile w/ your scores. That gives you a good chance.

Carnegie Mellon is need blind (unsure of how much aid you’d need), but be wary of that as well.

thanks but money isnt a huge concern for me. My mom was a doctor so we have enough to send me to college [=
