My Story - Will My Dream Schools Understand?

bump please

Update
I’m also applying to the following:

Stanford
Dartmouth
Caltech
Brown
Yale
Worcester Polytechnic Institute

–thanks

I didn’t read any of the responses so sorry if I repeat a couple of things. I think that they will completely understand. You were under very unique circumstances. It’s obvious that you are capable enough–seeing as you got high SAT I and II scores–to attend all of the schools listed. As long as your essays and recommendations are exceptional, you’ll be more than fine.

MIT-low/mid reach (for everyone)
Carnegie Mellon University-match
Cornell-match (Seriously, if 4 people from the high school next to mine can get in ED, so can you. Your stats, ec’s, etc are more impressive.)
Columbia-low/mid reach
Ann Arbor-don’t know enough about it
Urbana Champaign-don’t know enough about it
Princeton-low reach
Texas A&M-don’t know enough about it
Purdue - West Lafayette-don’t know enough about it

Good luck!

MIT - Reach
Carnegie Mellon University - Low Reach
Cornell - Low Reach
Columbia - Reach
Ann Arbor - Match
Urbana Champaign - Safety
Princeton - Reach
Texas A&M - Safety
Purdue - West Lafayette - Safety

I’m don’t know about (as in I am not too familiar with those schools) Ann Arbor, Urbana Champaign, Princeton, Texas A&M, and Purdue, but as for Carnegie Mellon, I think you have a pretty good chance. I also think you have a good chance for Cornell. As for MIT and Columbia, I think you have a fair chance.

Ur numbers r so good any of the schools would beucky to have you. You’ll be fine wherever you go

I’m basically in the same boat as you. One of my parents had terminal cancer and I had to take care of them and juggle school at the same time. Best wishes to you.

my prayers are with your parent. Are you a student in high school? I’d like to see your thread if you have one.

Yeah, I’m also doing apps right now. I don’t have a thread, but my stats are pretty similar to yours in the sense that I have at-par test scores for my dream schools but sub-par grades.

For your gpa, do you know if you’re top 10%? That’s a pretty important factor. Anyway, I think writing about your situation and how it has changed you is fantastic, as long as you didn’t dwell on how it was the reason for your gpa.

Thanks. My school doesn’t rank or give out percentiles. Can you put my schools into what you think would be reach, match and safety categories? Thanks.

I’m kind of in a similar situation regarding your story. If your colleges do understand your situation, I think you’re in good shape.

MIT - reach
Carnegie Mellon University - match
Cornell - low reach
Columbia - low reach
Ann Arbor - match
Urbana Champaign - match
Princeton - high reach
Texas A&M - match
Purdue - West Lafayette - match

Can you give me your feedback here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-essays/1264270-shoud-i-write-about.html#post13656918

Thanks. I chanced you back [=

You’re UW GPA will definitely hurt at Cornell, Columbia, MIT, and Princeton. However you still have a chance if you do a good job explaining to them your circumstances freshman year. Good luck.

Just got rejected from CIT CMU ED2.

Your EC’s are outstanding for ur intended major. Your SAT is also good. Of course your GPA is a tad low but if you explained your circumstance, I’m sure most of the colleges would take that into consideration. That being said, MIT, Princeton, and Columbia would be reaches (as they are for everyone). Cornell would be a medium reach. Everything else you have a decent chance. :)

Thanks. My hope is to get into Cornell or at least get an ensured transfer from Cornell.

More opinions would be nice [=

Do you by any chance go to BCA?

Great EC’s!
If you explain your circumstances freshman year and do a good job explaining, I think you should be set. I don’t really know much about the schools you want to go to, so I don’t want to give you chances, but that being said you have great EC’s, SAT’s and your GPA is high! Good luck

No I don’t go to BCA.

To me your whole persona seems pretty awesome… so let us know when you get accepted.

You know, I wish I could read some of the MIT application essay answers from different applicants…
