MY Teacher hasn't even STARTED on my rec yet!!

I guess the title speaks for itself, but my teacher just kept making excuses and stuff, so finally last night my dad decided to call her up to ask about it and she said she'd only prepared a rough draft! I doubt she even did that! I could have asked my english teacher but I read somewhere that schools prefer non-math/english teachers so I asked my polisci teacher instead! my Pomona deadline is december 15th...

Maybe she did write the rough draft and just wants to work extra-hard on your rec :)
I don't know why schools would prefer non-math/english teachers...seems a bit arbitrary.

YOUR deadline is the 15th. Her letter can likely arrive slightly delayed. I however, would throw myself at the feet of an alternative recommender NOW. ASAP and don't count on this one teacher. Save yourself now. Provide the slacker w/ express mail envelope from USPS and track whether she sends anything at all. Save yourself NOW.

I doubt she wrote the rough draft. If she really did, ask her for proof. Meanwhile, get another recommendation quickly, cause procrastinators like her can't be trusted.

Thanks guys. Yeah I totally regret giving to her. You won't believe it, my history teacher gave me her rec in 3 weeks. And that was in October!

If she can e-mail the school the recc, she can write it Dec. 15. The same is true if that's the postmark date.

Unlike what students should do with their applications -- write the essays over a period of time, making sure that they leave time for revisions -- recommenders do theirs at one sitting. It usually takes about an hour to write a good recommendation, and many people do them at the last minute. Most teachers may have dozens of recommendations to write for various students, so will do them in the order that they are due.

Schools also are forgiving of things like recommendations arriving late. The schools tend not to be as forgiving as the students' part of the application arriving late.

You may wish to ask your GC for advice because your GC would know if your teacher is reliable or is someone who has let students down by not getting recommendations in at all.

Why do you have to have it in on december 15? The Pomona ED2 deadline is December 28.

Apparently, the deadline for International students was december 15th.I honestly don't know why....

Recommendators can e-mail the recs?!

Try having it faxed, with hard copy following in the mail. I had to do this and it worked fine. My teacher got confused or something and we figured it out 10 days after the deadline.

BUT I had someone else who was supposed to be writing a supplemental letter and I'm almost 100% certain he never did. Don't just asssume it will get done. Sometimes people have really good intentions but don't do what they plan to do. I'd start looking for a letter from someone else fast if I were you.

And it can still work out just fine if you get right on it.

Man. I have a terrible teacher-forgetting-about-rec story. I gave my history teacher the Northwestern teacher evaluation form a good 2.5 months in advance. I needed it by December 15 (the last day of school, for some reason he wanted me to send it out myself, probably didn't want to make the trip to the post office). So two weeks before the deadline, I go in and ask him if everything is coming along. He said he'd have it for me by the end of the week. Walk in his class December 15, he asks what I want! Like he had no clue why I came to talk to him. I was so horrified! He ended up writing the rec write there in front of me in about 5 minutes. Didn't read it, but it was probably generic. I was really upset. I gave him sooo much time.

Yeah. Well. That's all I have to say :)

Oh, she did finally get me the recommendation. Fedexed it on the 13th.

What about this? I gave my D's guidance counselor stamped, addressed envelopes, with forms inside each, and stickies on each one stating when they were due. I did this on October 3rd so he could send in her transcripts for grades 9-11 and a rec. I even spoke to him shortly after giving them to him and had a nice conversation. Daughter has left 2 voicemails...they still are not in and he is now off for CHristmas break! They are all due December 31st! I don't know what else to do. He is the only one to send the transcripts and GC rec, and daughter is spending her senior year out of state. Sigh...at a total loss...
