I asked my debate coach for a recommendation, and I get the feeling that he hasn't written it yet--even though I applied early decision and the deadline passed today. I asked him a month ago, and he said that after writes it, he will send me a copy (I don't know why he wanted to give me a copy but he promised he would). Anyway, I haven't received a copy yet, but one of my friends did get a copy of hers. Several days ago I sent him an "thank you" note to try and remind him, and he replied "No problem, I'll send you a copy"... he never did. I won't see him again until the 2nd (the deadline is the 1st). My question is, if he indeed did NOT send it, and he sends it on the 2nd or 3rd, will it not be read? Is there any way to explain to the university that he was late mailing it or will they not care?

the deadline is flexible for teachers, etc....they understand that some things will come in late

rememer, they are just NOW starting to create the files, put in test scores, etc, so they don't even start looking for awhile

and OF COURSE it will be read, for heavens sake

think about it, if you are receiveing thousands of applications basically in the same week, what do you think happens

You need to ask him straight up if he has written it (don't bother with sending thank-you letters until you actually know he's done what you're thanking him for), and to give you a copy if he has. If he doesn't, get another teacher to write a recc.

You also can contact the college to find out if they've gotten his recc, and to learn if he gets it in late if they'll stil consider your app for EA or ED (assuming that's what you applied for).
