A teacher at my school (former engineer) says between Purdue, Michigan and
Notre Dame that Purdue would be better for chemical engineering. Anyone
have any opinions on this. Purdue over Michigan...hard to imagine since it's
more difficult to get into Michigan. I know they both rank higher for engineering
then Notre Dame...don't want to get into the "which is better...Notre Dame or
Michigan" as there is another thread dealing with that issue. Thoughts on the
Purdue versus Michigan for engineering?

i'm no expert, but perdue is highly regarded for engineering. For chemical engineering -- believe it or not -- the University of Minnesota has a fantastic reputation. Just below MIT and Berkeley.

Yeha U of M is great for chemical engineering!

Both Purdue and Michigan are excellent in Engineering. However, neither Purdue nor Michigan are known for their Chemical Eingeering departments. Michigan is really known for Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, Industrial, Nuclear and Aerospace Engineering. Purdue is know for similar fields.

Still, both Michigan and Purdue are considered among the top 15 in Chemical Engineering, so I would say they are even in that domain.

Even though both Michigan and Purdue are generally considered significantly better than Notre Dame in Engineering, Notre Dame actually holds its own in Chemical Engineering. So if you really prefer the Notre Dame environment, do not let their quality in your intended field of study deter you...they are certainly good enough.

Between Michigan and Purdue though, I would probably pick Michigan...but at the end of the day, you should visit both schools and decide which one fits your personality best.

"Between Michigan and Purdue though, I would PROBABLY pick Michigan"

LOL, are you trying to be polically correct now? I would risk my life to bet that you would pick Michigan.

You should know by now Esrajay, I am not "PC". But I cannot recommend Michigan over Purdue in engineering without making sure that I explain myself. Purdue is, after all, an Engineering Mecca.

check out University of Delaware for Chem E: Dept was rated higher than UM (haven't seen the latest), a relative bargain nonresident, and as a bonus you get the same football helmets!
