hi, my physics teacher is being mean to us. She has ridiculous standards and grades extremely unfairly. Not only is the class average a low 70, she does not teach us much. I should not be one to complain because I have one of the highest grades in the class, but what should I do. I cannot let her rule us with such tyranny. I understand I might be coming off as bratty, but I have another teacher, in Chemistry, who is tough but at least fair. In this physics class, it is extremely common to get a 20-40% on a lab or test. Is there anything I (or we as a class) can do? There must be something that prevents teachers from simply taking their anger out on students.
Maybe discuss the situation with your guidance counselor. But first change your attitude form one of complaining to one of expressing concern about a situation.
And FWIW you are not the first and you will not be the last one to deal with a difficult teacher.
@happy1@JustGraduate during school today, I found out there is a big conundrum between all the different classes with this teacher about her and a lot of kids are going to talk to the dean or principal about her. So it was no just me who was feeling this way. Thought this was interesting and wanted to share with you. Hopefully another teacher will review her grading policies.
I do hope that the tone of any conversation is (as I noted above) is framed in terms of concern and equity instead of just complaining. Hopefully someone like the chair of the dept. will work to get the grading policies of all the teachers in the dept. in line. Good luck.
@Otterma in the past, this teacher had taught the standard level course. But this year she has moved up to IB. Last year, students had a different teacher who was better.
