What do it do?

I missed about 16/20 school days in May due to AP tests and sickness. However, none of my teachers are excusing me from any of the work assigned. I am even being penalized for not doing in class work given on the days I missed...

School just ended a few days ago for me, and only about 1 hr ago I was notified by my teachers that I would not be excused from all of my work...

So now I have over 30 assignments to do, assignments that were assigned to me when I was taking AP tests, assignments that I have literally no way of doing....

Please help...

Well, did you try to communicate with your teachers during the time you were absent? Obviously being sick sucks, but other students must have also had AP Tests. If your teachers told you when you were gone that the work would need to be made up, then you really should have been working on making up the work.

Good on your teachers. The other students in your class had to do the work. The other option would be for you to fail the courses.

Rather than complaining about your situation online, perhaps you could bear down and get the assignments done.

I struggle with why you would possibly think that you were not responsible for this work.

The AP tests dates were planned, not unexpected, and you should have made arrangements with the teacher prior to the absence. Whatever your schools policy is regarding absence due to illness, I am sure that it is not that all work is excused. It is your responsibility to find out what needed to be completed following each absence and make up the required work.

You need to ditch the attitude and start talking to your teachers/counselors/administrator to figure out what if anything you can do at this point to make up the work. And remember, they will be doing you a favor if they allow it rather than you doing them the favor by doing the work.

Get the work and do the work. As a junior who’s very accelerated in math, you should be able to figure this out yourself.
(I deduced that from your username, in case you’re wondering…)

Why would you think you didn’t have to make up work?.. You don’t get a free pass just cause you’re sick. Or because of AP testing

Did you really think you didn’t have to do the work? LMAO.

I mean, I hate to reiterate everything, but seriously, you should have been in contact with your teachers and asked for work. That’s what everyone in our school did whenever they were sick.

Why would you be excused from work that other people had to do?

Well then, allow me to give you all some more details…

I did ask my teachers. In fact, I emailed them all a week before my first AP exam, AP Chem.
Of course, some of them replied. My physics teacher was pretty cool, he gave me a list of all the hw i needed to do (Which I finished btw). My History teacher was pretty cool too, he gave me a list of all the hw due (again, all finished)

However, my foreign language, and my english teachers never replied to my first email.
I then went and asked them about the upcoming hw in person. They both told me that they did not have an exact schedule, but they told me that they would reply to my email whenever they assigned a new hw or made a test…

I got 3 emails from my english teacher, and 2 emails from my foreign language…
My english teacher told me that I had a test, and two projects (all of which i already knew about). My foreign language teacher told me that I had a single test, and a single project to do…

I eventually finished up all of the projects and tests they emailed me about.

However, they did not tell me about any of the daily work that they do IN CLASS.
I did not get any of the IN CLASS work done, and I am being penalized for that.

My real issue was that they never actually told me about this in class work until a few hours ago, at which point school had already ended. Now, the grade finalization day is nearly upon me, and I have no idea what to do…

I am not trying to get excused from work here.

What I am saying is that I asked all of my teachers to tell me about any work they would assign over the 3 AP weeks…

2 of my teachers told me everything, and I have A’s in their classes.

The other 2 of my teachers neglected to even reply adequetly to my request, and did not inform me about all of the work i needed to do over AP week, even when I, in person, asked them to do so.

Now I’m wondering how on earth these teachers are even licensed, because this just doesn’t seem realistic.

And you should have gone to guidance and asked them.

Now your point is understandable. I would totally talk to your guidance counselor and explain what happened to see if you can get some kind of extension. As much as the school would like you to believe, grades are never finalized.

Yeah, I recant what I said earlier too. Ask the teachers and your guidance counselor. Sadly, I don’t think anything will be done, though…

You missed 3 weeks of school for AP tests? That seems excessive. One of my daughters had three AP tests, and the other two (all in the same week this year) so they missed half days for each exam. They were expected to make up the work in the classes they missed, but of course not in AP classes. They each had math home work in non-AP math classes, and one had a rather big science project due. They also had ‘senior finals’ in classes that weren’t AP classes, even if there were juniors or sophomores in those classes, so they were finishing up classwork and doing finals while other people in their classes had another week.

The teachers in regular classes know how the AP exams work. If you took three weeks off to take a few AP exams, the make up is on you.

@twoinanddone If you read the OP’s post, you will realize that he was sick.

My suggestion is that you see if you can do the in-class work right now before the grades are fixed. If that doesn’t work, go to your guidance counselor for help

If he was sick, and called in sick to school, the school’s sick policy should be followed. At our school they have 1 day for every day they were out to make up work. At the end of the year, it is difficult as teachers only work a few days after classes end, so the principal of GC should be contacted. If someone was sick for 16 out of 20 days, a doctor’s letter would be required, especially if other days were missed during the year (after 10 days, every absence needs to be verified).

Actually i had 13 days of ap tests (a few were late), and was sick for 3 more days

ya @twoinanddone

I took A LOT more than a few ap tests. I’ve got 16 done so far, and im aiming for another 8 next year
