21% of out of staters got into Berkeley from last year's applicant pool. Instate % = 26%.

UCalGirl -- the UC's double-weight the three highest SATII's in the forumlaic portion of the review. But, it is only one portion of the holistic app approach.

L&S is equal in acceptance; its the schools like Business, Chemistry and Engineering that have separate, and higher requirements.

FlipChick -- it's equally hard for both in and out of staters -- acceptance % is about the same, however, but I would guess that out-of-staters (excl. foreign) have higher stats.

I have a 4.33 GPA and above 650 on SAT II Writing, IIC and Physics. I also have a 30 ACT but not too impressive SAT I Verbal score (re-taking this December though). Should I go undeclared for Berkeley and UCLA? I was going to go for Biochem or Bio-Sciences. But should I just go undeclared?

Bumpitty Bump.

Really can't comment since I don't know what the whole portfolio looks like. For example, if your grades and essay read passion = 'science major', then that's what you should select. But, if you have just as high grades in English + History, then undeclared could work for you.

Berkeley's biochem program is wonderful, btw. Good luck.

Thanks, I am leaning towards selecting biochemisty, but just want to make sure that one low score won't hurt my chances. I am re-taking it this december and am hoping to get 1350+. I have good EC's, which are also science-related for the most part (Rocketry Cometition in Virginia and tons of science awards). Do I have a higher chance of getting in undeclared or with biochemistry as my intended major?

BTW, only B in high school was in Psychology. All A's and 10 AP classes throughout high school career.

blue- i already got in. = P. oh yeah. im also ELC in a school of 3100

Lyric -- According to a UCB info sheet, "college and major enrollment goals are based on a number of factors including the number of faculty and teaching assistants, and available laboratory space. Because these factors change and student demand varies...the competition may fluctuate considerably from year to year."

Since I'm just an interested observer, it would be unfair for me to guess what might happen in this year's app pool.

Irock -- You do rock, if you're going to Cal.

sadly enough.. i applied early to Stanford.

I so wanna go to Cal. Thanks again, blue. What would you do in my situation? Undeclared or bio-chem?

It's true that a lot of dum-dums apply to all of the UC's, but a lot of great applicants do too. Berkeley is the dream school of MANY super genius types. Don't set yourself up for disappointment.

yeah no one actually knows how to exactually calculate ucgpa, its more of just a..... concept. they limit honors credits and its on soph. jr. a-g course work.

IRock, Stanfurd is a great school, particularly for Junior university.....(their full name is Leland Stanford Junior University -- the school is named after Leland Jr.) LOL

You definitely can't go wrong with either.

What if I'm applying to chemical eng. but its in LAS, do I still need to write my reasons under the personal statement?
