My transcript doesn't print any GPA or rank. No class size or anything like that. Absolutely nothing, except for my courses and grades and years and some other misc numbers.

How does this affect me?

I would guess that it simply puts a lot more weight on your counselor rec…that’s very strange though.

Are you sure this is the official transcript? This isn’t as big of a problem as you think because they ask for your gpa, class size, and rank from your GC on the Common App.

My daughter’s transcript lists classes for each year and grades…cumulative GPA is not calculated nor is there class rank…all grades are unweighted

The school profile show % of the class in each GPA range for junior year only…and Naviance is only recorded for junior year GPA…

There is actually a private school in our state (NJ) that doesn’t even put 9th grade grades on the transcript; only the courses taken…

I would request that the counselor write your GPA (weighted and unweighted) onto your transcript before she sends it out to schools.

Many schools, especially private schools, do not include GPA or ranking. They include school’s profile instead. If your school doesn’t rank, your GC won’t include it in your transcript even if you should request it. What you need to be aware of is some colleges use ranking and GPA to determine merit scholarhsip and Honors college admittance, Rutgers U. was an example for D1. Their system would automatically determine whether an applicant is eligible based on ranking. I didn’t know that until I called to find out, our counselor had to fax over a letter to give them D1’s approximate ranking (not official), but they would not include it in the official transcript.

^^^

Agree, some need such info for scholarship purposes.

I would ask the GC to write in your GPA and rank and sign to verify.

I have already applied to most of my schools… I’m doing Questbridge so the deadline was November 2nd.

I’m going to ask my counselor about this tomorrow…

:/

Even if the app was due November 2, I think it’s still ok to have the school send an ameneded transcript with GPA and rank on it.

If your school doesn’t rank, at least GC can put top 10% or whatever on your transcript.

also, have them include both weighted and unweighted GPAs

Ok, I’ll ask my counselor to write that info on a few signed transcripts which I’ll mail to the schools.

Also, my unweighted GPA contains points for honors (but not AP). I guess we don’t have a weighted GPA.

It goes like this:

-(fake) “unweighted” GPA that gives points only for honors and not APs
-UC GPA, includes honors and AP but it’s capped, and it doesn’t include 9th grade.
-no weighted GPA

Since these schools are not UCs, should I just ask him to write the “unweighted” one? I guess it’s good because it makes my GPA look higher than what it would be if the colleges calculated it themselves :D
