I'm currently an incoming freshman to the University of Nevada, Reno and the fall semester starts in a little more than a month. Anyway, I was pretty excited about going because I live in Las Vegas currently, and I had heard that Reno had a similar atmosphere and a lot of the same activities to offer. I attended orientation a few days ago, and now I'm not so excited. The atmosphere there is just NOT for me and overall i just felt really out of place on campus. I don't know exactly why, it's just obvious that it's not a good fit for me.

I really want to attend a California university (that's been my dream for forever, and I feel so at home in California whenever I make a trip) but I know that at this point in time I can't afford it without instate tuition, which is a big reason for my attending UNR. My plan is to attend UNR for two years and then transfer to a university in California. I know that for this to work I'll have to be careful about what classes I take so that they'll transfer correctly. But I feel like it'll be worth it since I'm so underwhelmed with Reno and California is where I really want to be.

Is this a viable option? Are my chances of getting into a CA school okay even though I'm coming from Nevada? Is transferring schools in general a good idea? I'm sorry this is a long post!
