My turn ... ^^;;

Nothing spectacular unfortunately; My biggest killer is the lack of leadership in extracurriculars and practically no competitions/awards. so here goes nothing ^^;

I am a female Asian from Texas

Note: Our high school is new and has only 1 graduating senior class so far (class of 07). Unfortunately, very few had high gpas or got accepted to the "top colleges."

GPA: Weighted 4.73; Unweighted: 3.75
Class rank: 36/676
Courses: Best ones given for our grade level

SAT: Math 760, Reading 740, Writing 800; Total: 2300
PSAT: 223
SAT II: Biology-E 730, US History 710, Math II 750

APs: Psychology 5, World History 5, Statistics 5, Biology 5, English Language 5, Calculus AB 4, Computer Science A 4, US History 5 (taking 6 more this year)

Extracurriculars/Activities (not much =/):

Orchestra (9-12) (played violin for 7 years) - Concert Master
Mu Alpha Theta (9-12)
French Club (9-12)
Texas State Math League (9, 10, 11)
Choir (9-10) - Librarian
Literary Club (10-12) - Co-founder and Vice President
Model United Nations (10-12)
School Musical (10th)
National English Honor Society (11-12)
National Honor Society (11-12)

Awards (even less >_<):

Orchestra: Region member, Area member, 1 rating on Solo and Ensemble every year
Choir: Region member, 1 rating on solo and ensemble
National Merit Commended (I'm pretty sure I'll make it to Semifinalist though)
Qualified for National AP Scholar (I don't know if this'll even help)

Volunteer/Intern:

Literary Club: Volunteer at annual Teen Book Festival and Hats Off to Reading program
Memorial Herman Hospital: about 200 hours so far, but I'll have to check on this later. 4 hours per week.
Woodlands Recreation Center Gorilla Hole: biweekly paid volunteer program ... just started so only 8 hours so far >_<
Houston Medical Center: Worked as summer student during the summer of 07. Approximately 108 hours total.

I already know the colleges that are likely to accept me, so those aren't the ones I'm worried about. I want to test my luck and apply to some of more difficult ones too, so posted below are a list of those I'm thinking about choosing. I want to know if I have a shot at any of them. ^^;

Yale
Rice
Duke
Washington U in St Louis
Northwestern

Yale--Reach
Rice--Match
Duke--Slight Reach
Washington U in St Louis--Match to Slight Reach
Northwestern--Match

Great work, but the rank will do you in at Yale for sure You have decent chances at the rest, but I think Duke is also going to rule you out based upon rank. I expect the others to offer you a spot--though WUASL may be a school that waitlists you first and offers you a spot later on (like in May or June).

Best of luck.

You have really good chances. Good Luck! and my school is new too, and this year we will have our first graduating class.

Ahh .. thanks guys ^^ This helps alot!

and goodluck to you too.
