I'm wondering whats my chances for UCLA,UCSD, maybe even CAL?

Also my friend trying to get into SDSU, she has a 3.6 gpa, sat score of 1500, nursing major, and taken AP US,world,Lit,Lang, what's her chances?

LuckXIII:

Assuming you are a California resident,
UCB/UCLA: Super Reach
UCSD: Reach

Nursing is an impacted program at SDSU and very competitive. Her test scores are on the low side. She might want to send in her app. to some of the less selective nursing programs in the cal state system just to be on the safe side. If she wants to be in San Diego, another option might be Point Loma Nazarene for nursing - it is a religiously affiliated school, however, but a good nursing program.

I agree with flopsy's assessment of your chances at the specific UC's mentioned -- you probably should check out what your specific UC GPA is as that is what will be used. For example, your PE and TA grades will not count, nor will your 9th grade grades. You need to also check on any weights for honors classes (honors classes before 10th/11th grade may not be weighted by the UC's - check to see which ones are for your school). If you are not eligible in the local context by being in the top 4% of your school in terms of class rank, Make sure that you meet the minimums for admission consideration at the UC's with your current test scores (UC GPA plus SAT I plus SAT IIs). Go to www.ucop.edu/pathways to check it out.

My friend goes to Point Loma Nazarene and if you are not very religious I would not consider it. She IS very religious and has still found a hard time coping with mandatory chapel and fines for everything imaginable including having a boy in your room with their feet off the ground (I believe it was $50) and having your door closed was $25. She finally lied this year and said she would be living at home since they pretty much require you to live in the dorms for all four years.

is sdsu really that hard of a school to get into for the avg. student? from the requirements and compeition its seem as hard as a uc

Other Uc's are good too, with smaller classes and more personal attention than big name ones.

UCLA/UCB:Big Reach
UCSD:Slight Reach/ Match (you are favored in their formula)....pull up your SAT1 and SAT2's!!

SDSU IS very difficult to get into - they get more applications than any other cal state (close to 34,000 last year and growing every year), including Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. They also give a bit of preference to residents of San Diego, making it even harder for applicants outside that area to get in. Certain impacted majors are - like nursing - are also more competitive. SDSU also has the second highest median GPA and test scores (after Cal Poly SLO) in the cal state system. They actually accept a smaller percentage of applicants than UCSC and UCRiverside.

I live about 40 minutes away from SDSU, the school in my opinion is very poor. From what I hear they've overcrowded the school so now they're shipping freshmen students to Groosmont Community College and Mesa Community College for their GE classes.

Why pay $14,000 for a GE when you can do it for 1/4 of that at the same institution they're going to send you to.

I had an old babysitter though who had a 1250 on her SAT's and a 3.7 GPA and lived in the San Diego area and applied under Business and was rejected -- she was later accepted though because her did gave some money to the foundation, I believe. Also this kid I used to know now goes there, he had something like a 1170 on his SAT's and a 3.4 GPA and applied under Business.
