possibility of being a junior honor guard

i am also in a scholarship program since the 7th grade.

i will be going to 4th year in marching band. 2nd year presidency. i also have a tragic past of a family member that im still struggling with.

sat I - 1390 :( i know its bad...
by my 3rd one i hope to reach at least 1690.

i dont wanna get into personal information.....but my mother has a serious illness, and i help her the best i can. i strive the best i can.
i wanna go to ucla~ my dream school but im not sure... my second choice is uci..

please help..i guess you can be harsh......but id really like support.
:) thank you everyone for ur time

UCI acceptance is 60%, plus there's also UC Santa Cruz, maybe even UC Santa Barbara if you get lucky. A D-grade in AP Biology isn't horrendous, but you should retake geometry in summer school, make other arrangements to make that grade go up, since a D in a core class is not good in generally.

Anything is possible, so I would say don't give up. Just try your best with the time left you have, and write the best and most extrodinary personal statements ever, and you just might get in. Nonetheless, I personally think you have a good shot at UCI. Best of Luck

thanks guys..
i really hope i have the chance.
any more?

1390/1600 or 1390/2400?

2400... :(

Make sure you explain your position in an essay to the colleges!

thank you... yeah..but im not sure if its much help? i really hope it is...

Yes - explaining what you've dealt with (and coming off confident and prepared for the next step instead of pitiful) will absolutely be an asset to you. It's not going to vault you into mega-selective institutions, but it will mitigate some of your woes.

Nobodyjay ~

You're to be commended for holding it together as well as you have, given your difficult circumstances.

First, don't be too hard on yourself.

Second, as best as possible work on your grades. Involve your GC as much as possible...get that person on your side...that can be invaluable in the college application process.

Third, if you were my child I might advise you to not push for an extremely demanding college, at least at this point. Since you and your family have been through so much recently, it might overwhelm you, particularly if you need to continue to help out at home in the near to intermediate term.

Fourth, consider a gap year or cc to get those issues resolved, those skills and grades plumped up a bit.

Fifth, remember that there is always a fine opportunity and a wonderful outcome at a wide range of schools.

When it comes time to write your essays, bring out all the life experiences you have had and how they have molded you into a serioius introspective person who will make a valuable addition to the college community.

I guess, at this point, I would advise dont' push too hard, don't rush too much. Just ride this time out and continue to make inroads into making yourself an all-around more attractive applicant.

And, know too, that with all the distractions in your young life right now, your SAT scores can be impacted...and it is nothing to be ashamed of! You do what you can...and as times improve so will everything in your life...little by little. Don't lose heart. You'll have your dream...in time.

Best wishes to you.

my mom says i have a chance at uci if i raise my score to 1800...
and yeah, she turned away, it might be hard?
i know ucla looks alot at hardships and stuff, but sigh

btw, thank you everyone...
ur words....ur words are just so greatly appreciated...
sage44, idk what to say..
wow..

i think that if can get up to a 1800-1900, you have a great shot at non Berkeley UCs because that score will fall above the 25% level and you definitely have extenuating circumstances.

wow, that is tough score. well for me heh =/
but thank you so very much bobobbob
wow support is really helping me out..i would be totally bummed w/o u guys

if there was a slight chance that i was near that level, is it a goner for me for UCs?

i'm sorry,
wasn't*

Just do the best that you can and then take it from there.

You never know.

PM me if you have any specific questions or help with choosing collegesor anything, id be glad to help out.

bobbobbob - if you don't mind me asking, who are you?

nobodyjay,

The UCs will give you some leeway for hardships, also for being 1st generation to attend college, URM status, etc. You can and should reach to UCs and use every advantage you have.

To this end I would work first and foremost on your grades. Your SATs will also improve if you re-do geometry and nail it as SAT math is loaded with geometry. Take geo again if possible.

Sometimes taking a particularly challenging subject in summer school or at CC can make it easier to focus and also lighten the academic load the following year. My D did this with all her science classes-- took them in the summer, before everyone else. This left room for two music classes (her love) during the school year.

I think you should also look at some safer schools though. A good backup plan is very important.

Look at Cal State schools and also the CCs that are "feeder" school to good UCs. For example, Santa Monica City College is a feeder school for UCLA and it would make a great safety for you.

Good luck and keep trying. If you make an appointment with your college counselor he/she may have other good ideas.

well from what i belive at the most i will get 3.24 or 3.3or so...
im not sure if ucs will think im a joke...
but i strive just too hard and end up with these,,,
i wish theyll add 9th grade grades...or even 1st semester of 12th grade. 2nd semester of 12th grade would be nice too...
cus i know i would do well, really well..
