my weird obsession

I am very found of the cutest beaver on earth -- the MIT mascot. I think the mascot is truly a masterpiece. I will be attending the Harvard SSP program this summer, and I would like to know whether I will be able to see the beaver this summer. It would totally be a dream come true to me. Is it at all possible? Sorry if this thread sounds totally ridiculous...

the beaver, to my knowledge, only appears at certain official mit events that are deemed appropriate for such a display of MIT spirit. major sporting and less-formal administrative happenings seem to be the usual times, and probably some parts of rush and cpw, though our request to have Tim come to pitlighting was sadly refused. since such events are unlikely to happen during the summer, i would be highly surprised if you managed it, but i could easily be mistaken.

That is soooo sad! So the beaver probably won't show up for the college fair hosted by Harvard this summer? T_T

taffyluchia do me a favor: dont get emotionally attached to that mascot.

By the way, the beaver's name is Tim, I believe.

ah, I thought Tim was the name of the person wearing it ><

Nah, Tim is the name of the beaver. Look at "TIM" backwards and you'll figure out why.

I doubt the beaver would show up to any Harvard-sponsored event (at least if it's on the Harvard campus); there was a bit of a catastrophe a few years ago regarding Harvard and a wayward Tim-paw.

For the whole saga:

2. <a href="http://www-tech.mit.edu/V122/N20/20paw.20n.html%5B/url%5D">http://www-tech.mit.edu/V122/N20/20paw.20n.html</a>
3. <a href="http://www-tech.mit.edu/V122/N22/22paw.22n.html%5B/url%5D">http://www-tech.mit.edu/V122/N22/22paw.22n.html</a>
(must be read in that order)

Anyway. I believe any ASA-recognized group can rent the beaver costume for a specified time period. Perhaps you could bribe/blackmail/seduce some student group into renting the costume for the day.

are there any MIT sponcored events during the summer? like july 4th parties or whatever. i'm willing to walk down there...

wow, thanks molliebatmit! the articles are awesome....

you should spend 4th of july down here anyway, since we (in general, and the haus especially) are right on the river, right in front of where the fireworks barge is anchored, and you can hear the pops from across the water. a quick look at the mit events calendar shows me nothing on the 4th, but it may not be posted yet, of course. feel free to look yourself for other possibilities while ssp is in session.

are there any games i could go to duting the summer. and thanks for the info about the calender.... too bad they don't have a list of events tim will show up on.

during *

are you still serious taffyluchia? get over the stupid mascot. and once again, dont get emotionally attached to it.

T _ T

what does that mean?

i believe that's a face with tears streaming down it.

did i make you cry taffyluchia?

where is the love??? hugs taffy

True, "Tim" is "MIT" backwards, but even cooler - "Tim" as what you see when looking in the mirror while wearing an MIT T-shirt.

In the words of Polski Fiat (MIT band) - "My name is Tim, the mirror laughs at me because I'm him."

awwww, you're so sweet^^ hugs Ben

SSP people are visiting MIT on July 21, I can't wait!

.....then don't. MIT exists all summer long, and the walk from harvard square isn't that far. you'll probably get a lot more out of an afternoon wandering campus and talking to people than The Official Tour and Admissions Spiel.
