Ok so these are a bunch of pretty random , maybe whacko questions , simply about life at Michigan. Im international so excuse me for some obvious questions if there are.

What do Michigan students wear to classes? Are shorts , three quarters and sandals frowned upon?

We do our washing and drying of clothes in the laundry room in every rescidence hall , how long does it take , and do we wait there till its done?
What about the ironing of clothes? Do we do it ourselves in our dorm rooms?

Is it true that groups are assigned in the dorms every week or to take care of the mantainence of that rescidence hall , like cleaning the bathrooms etc etc?

What happens during ‘Michigan Time’?

Is it non advisable to go out in the Michigan weather with wet hair?

I want to order the University Linen pack , the Complete Campus Collection, but any idea where I order it to be delivered , i definitely cant order it to a nother country, and the deadline is August 10th , so what address do i give?

Are homework assigments , like writing papers et al , mostly typed? becoz my handwriting really sucks.

Do dorm rooms come with wireless internet? Or do we have to get a wire connection from the internet port to the computer?

Do dorm rooms have heating/air conditoning? Oh and in my virtual tour of my double dorm , the beds were like lofts , and i had to climb a ladder to get on my bed and i dont want that …is it necessary to have it like that?

OK so this is quite a long question list , id appreciate anything you guys tell me , about any of my questions. thanks!

1) you wear whatever you want. usually jeans and a sweater or something like that.

2) washing takes 38 min, and drying takes 1 hr. no, you can put it in the washer or dryer, leave, and then come back. yeah, you iron in your room or you pay for a dry cleaner.

3) no. that happpens in fraternity houses only to the best of my knowledge.

4) Michigan time refers to how classes start ten minutes after the hour and end on the hour. those ten minutes give you sufficient time to walk from class to class, print out your hw, use the bathroom, or just take a quick break.

5) idk, i don't think i ever had a problem with it.

6) why would you? buy it from somewhere else. much cheaper!

7) papers are generally typed. math/science hw is not.

8) no, most dorms do not allow wireless. you get one port for your room.

9) no, dorm rooms in michigan do not have heating. you just have to suffer through the cold of the winter. jesus.
beds can be lofted, bunked, or done however you like, as long as it fits in your room. yeah, climbing a ladder drunk is really really hard.

Thanks maguo1 :) and...I'd buy the University Linens pack to save myself the trouble. I wouldnt want to run around Ann Arbor the first day I get there , as I have no idea where to go and I would need everything on the first day as Im moving in on that day - August 23rd.
As for the heating /air conditioning - you get units which double both as an air conditioner and heater and i heard there was no air conditioning.

Bring a fan for your room because it's hot when you get there in August/September. Also, during "Welcome Week" there's a thing called Meijer Madness that has frequent buses to a superstore that has all you need to get food, room supplies, etc. It'd be a lot cheaper than buying from that university package.

seriously, try to avoid buying anything from the university, especially care packages. you can order stuff from Linen's and things or Bed Bath and Beyond and have them ship it or something.

you can wear anything you want. ANYTHING.

you don't wait until it's done. you just leave your clothes and come back. during peak times like the weekend, it could be quite packed.

nope. they just tell you to keep it as clean as you can.

it's mostly walking to class, getting a very quick cup of coffee if possible, etc.

that all depends on how cold it is..

don't buy that. just get it from bed bath and beyond.

everything is mostly typed except obviously for math hw, etc.

you need a wire connection, which really sucks. but if you bring your own router, you can establish wireless.

you can set up your beds however you want. there is heating of course, but no AC. you honestly won't even need the AC unless you stay over the summer.

Since I may be moving in on the 23rd , Ill need all the room supplies the first day itself , and since I'll have no idea where Bed Bath and Beyond et al are , it'll be easier to get the complete package in one go. And I dont mind the extra money .

This is the first time I'm hearing about Meijer Madness....what exactly is it? And is it during Welcome Week or International Orientation as well????

I wandered into that one night when I was doing my grocery shopping. I was like, holy cow what IS THIS? I mean, it looked fun and all, just crazily unexpected at 10 pm on a weekend night. I think I got a free Levi's t-shirt out of it, even though I'm an old hag long past needing dorm supplies.
