MyChances Accuracy

How accurate are the percentages given by MyChances.net? They seem waaay too high for me. The site says, for example, that I have an 86.3% chance of getting into Brown.

Here's my link code so you can see my profile / percentage chances:

What do you guys think about this site?

I have a 3.25 GPA and it said I had a 35.7% chance at princeton university
22% at Harvard

enough said

MyChances is very unreliable.

Yeah it told me that I couldn't get into UC Santa Barbara but I could easily get into UCLA. I don't think it works very well.

let's see. #1 in class, 2300+ SAT, 36 ACT, 4.0 GPA.

why are even on that site? clearly you could get into any school. you don't need a website to tell you that.

also, look under the percentage for its accuracy.

haha ummm

I have a 65.4% chance of getting into Wake Forest but a 45.7% chance of getting into Richmond?

Yeah no...

it just bases its results on SAT score and GPA really...it does not take into account several other factors...

In most cases it's either 0% or 100%.

0% accuracy, thats more like it.

interesting tid bit

thing rejected me from all my reaches and accepted me at all my 'targets'

that is actually kind of encouraging for me because i didnt miss my targets by much and some of the best parts of my app (lots of leadership/volunteering and a finalist spot in a national essay contest) are largely left out of their formula (GPA,SATs)

I'm still surprised they didnt think I would get into well with a 3.6ish GPA, a 2240 on the SATs and 800s on Bio E and US SAT2s.....

it's really based on GPA, SAT/ACT, class rank, and some general questions. I'm pretty sure APs and SAT IIs are not taken into account.

but i think it's also based off of other people who have been accepted or denied at the schools on the site.

if anything it's a decent reality check from a stats standpoint. i would say that if you have anything near 50% for this site then you have realistic chances at the school.

Yeah, it says I have a 56% chance at Penn State in-state with a 3.7 UW GPA and 2080 on my SAT, so I wouldn't trust it. The facts are based on other applicants and let's face it the person who uses a computer and is worried about their college admission is usually a person with high scores. These facts are completely skewed saying Penn States average SAT is 2010. Penn State said anyone above 1900 on their SATs should apply to the Honors College when I was there. Don't worry about that site, it also said I'm getting rejected from BC even though it's supposed to be a match. Trust people who know more what they're talking about. I also think that site weights GPA incredibly highly.

it's decent enough but definitely not something you should rely on wholly. Yeah, there are some people out there that the sites work for, but I think that's b/c they have CRAZY stats to begin with... and I see a lot of users who was predicted less than 10% to be accepted to certain colleges but still was accepted anyway.

what other "chance" sites are there? any reliable ones out there? haha

collegedata will tell you if it is a safety/match/reach, ignore he numeral ratings though

what does an 86.3% chance even mean anyway...if you applied 100 times, you would get accepted 86 of those times?

imo assigning such a specific probability is ridiculous.
