MyMIT Account Locked

Today, I returned from vacation and was terrified to find in the following message in my inbox from MIT Office of Admissions:

Dear _____:

For your protection, we have locked the account for username _____.

Multiple attempts were made to log into this account with invalid passwords.

Please call 617-253-3400 to reactivate your account.

Thank you.

MIT Office of Admissions

I tried logging into my account at my.mit.edu, and sure enough I got an error saying that my account has been locked.

I called the number from the email, but got a recording saying the MIT Admissions office was closed for the Winter Holidays, and that it wouldn't re-open until January 5th.

Any suggestions on what I should do? I was hoping to submit my application online to meet the Janurary 1st deadline... =[

Well, you could submit on paper, if that's an acceptable alternative for you.

You could also wait until Jan 5 and talk to the admissions officers at that time. They're very flexible about situations that are beyond your control, and they would certainly allow you to submit late (although I don't know how long after Jan 1 the online system stays open for submission).

You could also leave a comment on Matt's latest blog entry (here), which he says he'll be checking from time to time over break.
