myMIT program interest supplement 2

Hi everyone, I’m applying to MIT and am currently trying to write the supplemental essay about the department/ program at MIT that appeals to me most.

I’m interested in biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, and biotech, but I’m not sure which major (or even school) to write about.

How do I choose between Bio (7), Chem (5), chem and bio (5-7), chem-bio engineering (10B), and bio engineering (20)? Is it good to study an interdisciplinary major like 5-7?

From what I see on the course bulletin, biology at MIT is closer to biochemistry. I prefer chemistry over normal biology, but at MIT the biology major is different from that of other schools. At the same time, though, the engineering majors are pretty interesting. I kind of like all of them.

I applied as a biochemistry major for most of the other schools I applied to and Biological/ Biomedical engineering for a few of them.

If anyone is majoring in any of these courses or knows which one most closely fits my interests, I would really appreciate some help.

Thanks so much!

You can talk about a specific program, not a department, if that helps. But you could say bio-engineering because that is closer to biotech and it also shows that your interested in a spread of subjects, not just one when you say bio or chem.

Thanks, @davetomit2024. Also, congrats on your acceptance to MIT!
