Myspace vs. Facebook

facebook <3

Back in the heady days of my freshmandom facebook was limited to the Ivy League. O tempora, o mores...

Here's my take on both...

MySpace can link you to anyone, not just high school or college students. You also put more stuff on there, and if I'm looking for potential mates I prefer to see stuff like religion and whether they smoke or drink. You also get a blog. However, there are some limits and some problems of MySpace as well. You only get one photo album, the site loads slowly, there are way too many ads, and lately they pester everyone to download Flash Player 9. For anyone using Mac OS 9, you can't. This is a bad thing to me--OS 9 is still in use (and is better than OS X, in my opinion). But the real problem is the customized profiles. They take forever to load, cause your computer to grind to a halt, and blare music at you when you don't want it. I always have to mute my sound before I visit MySpace in case some nut puts a loud song on his profile that I don't like.

Facebook has a better interface, runs better on older computers, has fewer ads...basically everything said above about Facebook that makes it better applies. There just weren't too many cons of MySpace listed.

WORD TO THE WISE: If you are dumb enough to drink, don't post pictures of yourself doing it on the internet! Places are checking these sites for stuff like that! You don't want to be busted, right? (I've heard of employers doing it, pretty soon the dean at college will too)

Also, just to note, my high school searched everyone's MySpace and called people with provocative pictures/drinking/smoking into the office. Their parents got a call. Frankly, I think this saved one of their lives--she got back on track thanks to this wakeup call! A big thanks to the IT department that I still work for over at my alma mater! (I wasn't around when the MySpaces were busted...interestingly they found mine too and they loved the link I made to a video I produced that I have on there).

Facebook is squeaky clean compared to MySpace's filth.

I have become addicted to facebook. I think it is a lot cleaner...design wise and "people" wise.

I have had myspace for only a few months...but I am not on it as much.

I just tired to ford the river and my ****ing oxen died.
