Myspace

I have one and if you use it corectly, its a greta tool for networking. I kept in touch with people I took an SAT class with, and with people I wnet to a summer program, with. I even hunted down one of my best friends from elementary school and talke dto him for awhile on aim.

I don't think its unsafe if you use it properly. If you are posting personal and revealing data that's your own fault. You should know better to put your full name, school and contact details. I only add people I know and don't have my school or anything similar to that listed. It can be okay if you are smart about it.

I really like Myspace. It's a great way to keep in contact with people I knew years ago in America, people that I never thought I'd see from or hear from again. Also, I've met a bunch of people that I'll be going to college with next year, that's been pretty cool.

I like to use to to meet my future college classmates.

My Ds use myspace- I think the system has a lot of ways to stay safe- blocking messages, pnly allowing comments from friends, etc

My Ds are savvy and know I can look at their myspace whenever I want, I don't but I can. KNowing that anyone in the world can look is important to remember

I do think it helps shy kids "get out there", it can be used badly by anyone, but if parents talk to the kids, show how to not share too much information, etc, its okay

THe way a person can hurt you is if you let them into your life with addresses, phone numbers, going out and meeting them, etc.

Most dangerous people look for vulnerable people that are easy to trick, they don't want too muc trouble or bother with someone who is clever enough to see through a fake, if someone sounds just perfect for you and has all the right answers, they are probably fake

people that have had problems with Myspace often had other issues in their lives and the myspace was not necessarilly the cause, it was the use of myspace or the myspace was jsut something they did, there was not always a direct correlation

use myspace sparingly, like your tv, use it wisely

What I have noticed is if a certain group at a school uses myspace, then others feel the need to to fit in

What does bug me about myspace is the I LOVE YOU STAN>>>>>I LOVE YOU BECCA>>>>so much fake talk with some kids who want to appear very mature, when in fact actually look desperate for someone to say it back

As well, the whole top 8 thing is annoying- girls begging to be in some guys top 8 just looks sad

^^^

I agree. Also kind of annoying is the "YOU'VE BEEN HIT BY THE SEXY TRUCK, NOW YOU HAVE TO COMMENT ON OTHER PEOPLE'S WALLS AND TELL THEM THEY ARE SEXY AS WELL" or whatever that is.

Also the bulletins which are like "Repost this bulletin and you will meet your crush tomorrow at 2pm. If you don't you will have 10 years of bad relationships!"

Seriously, come on...

Those things are so stupid. I mainly ignore bulletins.

I ignore bulletins too. But blaming myspace for spam bulletins is no better than blaming hotmail for spam email.

Myspace is great unless you turn into a Myspace whore (I average less than minutes per week). I use myspace to keep in touch with people who I've met in elementary and haven't seen in years, etc..

moralityjustice, that's exactly what I use it for. And it's really not that unsafe unless you have an astoundingly low amount of common sense, like, even less than me.

It's a good means of emailing people and getting quick responses if you have questions and may not have their email addresses or AIM sn's.

my lit teacher said she likes to look at all her students myspaces during her free time. i found that creepy.

Maybe your lit teacher is secretly the old lit teacher at my school! He got busted for child porn last year. I didn't have him as a teacher, but he was my speech coach. I was disappointed; I thought he was cool. His wife had/has a mullet.

WEll it was a lady, but no mullet. She's cool, we're watching holy grail in class now, but she said since it's public domain, she's gonna look at it and not feel bad so many some kids will think about making it private i guess.

Hmmm... that's interesting. I know the VP's daughter at my school got in trouble for something on MySpace. But that's because her daughter's a friend of mine and she was complaining about it to me. I think my friend called a girl something along the lines of a slut, and the other girl told her mom, who complained to my friend's mom. Which is how she got in trouble.

Now if that's not confusing to follow I don't know what is.

One of the teachers at my school got fired for posting on a blog once. (don't know if he did it on myspace).

Seriously, if a person leads a great social life, why get myspace? I certainly don't see businessmen and congressman using myspace.

Actually I bet they all do. And they have their little blogrings, and they cry when one of their friend's requests gets rejected.

Someone should make a movie/comedy about congressmen using MySpace. Actually, that would probably be very boring, but still!

my drum teacher said some students made him one...but after looking at the stuff on kids' profiles he figured he'd just leave them their privacy

yeah if George Bush got myspace...................:p

A directory would be perfectly fine. Unfortunately, myspace tries too hard to be everything else... Most social networking sites, myspace included, violate the KISS principle completely. Directory? Great. Place to make a personal website? Ok, reasonable enough. Butchered CSS and HTML, large embedded flash objects/music/video, horrible coding, and a directory--sorta--on the side? Not so much. Add in millions of users who incessantly make idiotic comments on other user's pages and you've got yourself a festering sore of a website.

Really, most communities with over 400 users active at any given time are abysmal.

the colorguard coach at my school was fired because of seminude pictures of herself on myself >.< oh well, everyone hated her thought because she was mean.
