Myspace

I heard that college admissions officers are looking at people's Myspaces to judge their character. Do they ask if you have any kind of website? I'm concerned because I have a Myspace (although I don't think I have anything offensive on mine), and what I may need to do to privatize it.

I doubt an admissions officer is going to take the time to look up all their applicants on myspace. I've heard stories recently of employers doing the same. Just keep aware that anything you put out on the internet can come back to haunt you. Either keep a neat appearance on your profile (ie, don't talk about how much you love beer pong and how much you hate that little skank that flirted with your boyfriend/girlfriend) or privatize your account.

But I really wouldn't worry about it too much.

Adcoms don't have the time to look at anything besides the submitted application, really.

How do you privatize your account?

I seriously doubt adcoms would look at someone's myspace. They would have too much time on their hands...

To privatize, can't you make it so that only "friends" can read your profile, no random strangers...or am I thinking of something else???

You're thinking the right thing but how do I do that?

I am not sure how to do that or even if that's possible...I don't see anything on account settings to only let friends view...

and of course, if you have a common name it would be more difficult to track you down. I hardly think they can base a decision on that sort of thing, as long as you keep alcohol off the internet.

Change your add to 14 or 15 I think is the only way to make it private?

Oops. I meant change your AGE.

its that easy? just change ur age? i dont think thats how it works.

Myspace is so lame.

Yes..just change your age to 14, then log off. Once you log back in, it will ask you if you want to make your profile viewable to "just friends only" or to people under 18 years olds.

I really hope admissions people are not looking at myspace..that would be unfair...imo

Ok I found out how to do it. Go to your Myspace home page, then go to "Account Settings", then in "Privacy Settings", click "change settings", and it's the last two choices.

When I go to "Basic Info" to change my BDAY to lets say may 24 1992, it says you must be 14 to use this site.

Okay, next time read a little. (no offense)
