Myspace?

Should I erase it I heard their hard on it up there?

No. Just don't use it when you are supposed to be studying.

Every year there are a few accepted candidates who post pictures of themselves and discuss their acceptance to USMA. This can draw unwanted attention from upperclassmen. Just be careful about what you post.

Yeah, be very careful about what you put on line. While you're a cadet, there always seems to be the Annual Great Facebook/MySpace Purge and cadets have gotten into a lot of trouble regarding pictures or things they'd posted online.

I agree with everyone above. I was worried too so i made everything I had (myspace, xanga, teenspot) private. But when I finally got up here, I found out that my Beast Squad Leader didn't even bother looking us up. He wanted to give us all a clean slate and all that.

That's one of the things you learn here: no matter how hot you were back in high school, it doesn't matter once your up here. You build your reputation as a Cadet by how well you do once your finally up here. Still, don't post anything dumb like you cheesing in front of your acceptance certificate that has your full name on it and whatnot.

so from what i gather, myspace and other networking sites like facebook are monitored and you can possibly be reprimanded for posting items that are deemed inappropriate by USMA? But otherwise, it's safe to have one?

censorship

Something to remember:

In the military - everything you say and do, on and off the job, in public and private is subject to scrutiny.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^Yep, ScreamingEagle can probably already confirm that he has had a security brief concerning such things as pasting one's name and face all over public forums. One's privacy, and that of their families, becomes much more paramount the closer they are to deployment.

To clarify, when I was cadet, Brigade Regs and Discipline spent hours building up binders full of things that were inappropriate in the eyes of the Academy. It happened my yuk, cow, and firstie year. Ther were literally hundreds of profiles taken down, it was crazy, like the CIA or something. I know a lot of friends who got 100 hours for pictures they had posted of them drinking underage, and many a cadet has gotten in trouble for other things. What you need to remember, was that, in all these cases, the cadets did post things that were questionable (ie drinking, foul language, offensive talk, etc). Dont go and shut down your accounts, but think about what you have posted and ask yourself 'would I want the guys in my platoon to see/know this about me?'

I should be in the clear then, all of my profile info is very general and patriotic. No illicit activies (as i have never engaged in them) are shown, referenced, or described in any manner. http://www.myspace.com/alwaysontheright
