Mystifying Application Status

Everything on my application summary page has a date under the “received” column except the First Year Common Application field. This field remains blank. However, I submitted my common application only a few minutes after I submitted the Brown supplement, and according to the common app website, Brown downloaded my common application the same day it was submitted.

I understand that it takes them quite some time to “process” different parts of the application that may have already been received, but I do not wish to wait until February for an email along the lines of, “Thanks for applying to Brown…we are missing the following…please fax by…”

ED applicants, did what I describe occur to you in the first weeks after you submitted your application? If so, did the problem just fix itself with time (My application was downloaded on the 11th)?

Thanks in advanced

I don't know if that happened to me because although I submitted my application early, I did not find my User ID until early November. At that time, everything was received by Brown.

In my opinion, your problem might result from the carelessness of the admission office.

You can email or call the admission office to ask them solve your problem.

I was thinking about making a call or email, but it does not seem like a big deal and I am sure they are busy sorting out ED apps...I don't want to be a hindrance.

Same here, violaina. By the time I logged in with my User ID, everything had already been received.
If you do call or email, you might want to wait a bit longer--the deadline is January 1st, right? If the Common App website says your application's been downloaded by Brown, I don't think you have to worry. You won't have to wait until February; if it doesn't show up before the deadline then you should obviously call and find out what's up.

Aw, come one, give them a break! They are dealing with what will amount to around 20,000 applications for RD, they are dealing with over 2,000 ED apps, and they have done this whole thing MANY times before. I would definitely not call it carelessness on the part of the office, but, rather, the fact that you don't know their process. Relax, let them do their work, check back often, and when time gets shorter, say around Dec 15 or so, then call or email. It will all get sorted out.

... the 15th is a few days AFTER the admissions deadlines come out.
I'd call them up. I had to earlier today, and the lady on the phone was calm and helpful.

Time is running out.
Have you gotten an email from them about having an incomplete application?

thanks for the replies,

Hollert, I am an RD applicant.

I think I am just going to make a polite call tomorrow and hope for the best. If I am tactful, then it cannot negatively impact my application, right?

I think it would be best for you to be patient, at least until all of the ED applications have been processed (December 11). Didn't you print some sort of record that confirmed you submitted your application?

My ED app took a couple of days after download to come up. Just hang tight and wait a bit. If it doesn't correct itself, then call. The admissions office is probably going nuts right now. I do think you are pretty safe if they have downloaded it. My teacher recs took over a week to show on my account screen, and I know they were sent in very early. I'm pretty sure you will be fine.

You'll hear from them if something is missing, especially if it is as monumental as the CA main app. Honestly, I think they use the month of December to let teacher recommendations trickle in, etc. I guess what i'm saying is: chillax for a couple of weeks and if you get no email from Brown about missing pieces you are likely cool. By the way, the CA site is poorly engineered and the status icons are flakey at best. if you are freaking out still, then I'd call but do it after 12/16 or so. I imagine the folks in the office are out of their minds for the next 2 weeks.
