Myth or Fact?

On SAT II's, a 750-800 are viewed the same.

Is this true or not? Is it just an attempt to make the very bright, but not perfect students feel better? Or do colleges really view them the same? To me, it seems that a student with all 800's would have a psychological effect upon the admissions officer. It's just like the officers that say that SAT retakes won't hurt you, but someone who has taken the SAT I seven times to achieve a score of 1500 won't be very impressive at all to the top colleges.

It depends upon where you go. In general, at the top competitive schools, there is a difference, but below the top it's OK. If you wanted to go to MIT, you're going to want an 800 in Math IIC. As an average on your II's, you'll want an average score for all your tests somewhere above 770.

Thanks. I'm asking because I already have two 800's in the book, and I took two more SAT II's today. One of them is Math IIc, and I think I got an 800 on that (and I think I could duplicate an 800 if necessary). The last test is Biology, in which I am predicting a score of 750-780 (possibly 800, but I really doubt it). Since it is a fourth test, and I'm not applying to bio/medical school (I taught myself the stuff in a month, just to see what I would get), do you recommend that I cancel and try again next school year?

If it's a fourth one and is above 750 there is no reason to cancel it. You'll have 3 800s which is enough and it isn't like a 780 is gonna bring you down.
