are you on campus?

or are you getting a 10k check?

^^^ I don’t plan to live on campus, but how do I check?

^^ wait I see it.

Your ePAL reflects that you are:

An undergraduate student
Independent
Living on campus
A California resident
An On-time applicant
Eligible for Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan

You think the official amount will be significantly less?

whaaa!

then how are you getting ~23k in grants?

I’m only getting 20…like i said I’m just going to call tomorrow, something has to be wrong.

UC Davis wants me to have a student contribution and they didn’t even give me a pell grant!

somethings weird.

(davis)
Federal Pell Grant Program-NH $0.00
Entering UG Scholarship - NH $13,248.00
Loan Option-see Award Details $5,500.00
UCD Campus Fee Grant-NH $525.00

yeah, i think you don’t even see the money, they just pay it directly to the housing.

^^ Hmmm. It looks like your missing the Cal grant though for sure. How about the other schools? The Pell and Cal grants are consistent amounts from SC, SB, R, LA and Davis. It’s just the grant from the school that varies.

Oh are you marked as On-campus too?

An undergraduate student
Dependent
Living off campus
A California resident
An On-time applicant
Eligible for Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan

UCkitty
all the money, including pell and work-study falls under blue and gold
ultimately the blue and gold plan is just there to insure that you can
pay for school. it is NOT a single grant it is an umbrella.

you need to get a pencil and paper and make a budget for the months
that you are enrolled and you will see that the money they are giving
you will
pay for you to eat, sleep, and go to school. including books and health
insurance!

it does not pay for you to lounge around during the summer months that you
are not attending school. you need to get a job when you are not in school to
pay your rent, etc. like everyone else. big shocker.

also, WORK STUDY was awarded to you as part of blue and gold.
and if you look on the ucla website you will see that it states that you are
eligible for blue and gold. you seem to have no concept of the fact that because
you live in california you are getting all this money (other states do not have
this money) and also getting to attend UCLA one of the best schools in the world.
not because you are a genius or a pro athlete, but because you live in calfiornia!

i am sorry if this sounds rude, but are
you really clueless as to how lucky you are? because this is my impression. and i find it shocking.

re: calgrant
it make almost NO difference if you get calgrant of not. that money will just get swapped out for whatever money you have now. the itemization will change, but the amounts probably will not. you really need to understand the concept that Blue and Gold is not a single grant. it is an umbrella.

^^ Well I know the dependent/independent thing matters. I’m 24 so I’m independent by default. My brother was 20 when he transferred last year so by default he was dependent so he also got significantly less financial aid. I think he received only about 18k in gift aid from UCLA.

And you’re marked as off-campus too so I think that might contribute to the smaller amount too.

northbeach,

no offense taken at all. I’m just saying because i don’t want to be dangled this steak in my face, only just as a tease. Meaning i don’t want to be accepted then be barely be “provided” financial aid that is supposed to seem sweet put ultimately is no different than me having to struggle if I didn’t anyways. not sure if you get what i mean

I JUST realized about the work study.

so the 14k is applied to my tuition ( i can easily come up with 300 honestly)

the 2k is “given” to me or i get the money like checks if it was a job…because if so…that kinda sucks.

2k in one year? what is that like couple hours a week, guess its a blessing and a curse.

i would like the money up front then work it, not get like 50 dollar checks here and there.

@Kitty you should change your FAFSA from off campus to on campus. That should give you about 2k more in grants.

so just say that, and the will give me the money?

how do i change? but i don’t want to live on campus…i don’t think.

why doesn’t everyone just do the then?

im so stupid

they will not give you the money if you live off campus. even if you change your fafsa.

^^ Yeah the work study is not bad. My brother said he only works like maybe 8-12 hours total. And he said some of the work study jobs actually do pay you on the side, so he does get paid(not much I would assume) but that’s still change in your pocket.

figured.

sounded too good to be true.

All grant money is applied to your school balance, aka what you owe the school. On your account you will have a bill like, 4,000 for this quarter. Then the grant money will cover that. Whatever is left over they will mail a check to you.

I think the confusing bit is the scholarship award because its sounds like “hey you earned this much! grats!” when really it’s just a certain amount to get you to a # of financial aid.

I also have not gotten my cal grant back, so I’m curious to see how the breakdown will change. I doubt I will keep the 17k gift aid from UCLA once cal grant goes into the equation, but we’ll see. It would really help out.

At this point I would like work study, and I plan on working part time as well.

UCkitty
it is time to do some maturing. everyone who is not a multi millionaire must work and pay their bills. they are not going to give you more money and the fact that you are getting any money while you are not a Genius or a pro Athlete seems to be completely lost on you. you are a good student and you are getting all your tuition covered at one of the best schools in the world. and all you are doing is whining and trying to get the school to give you MORE money because you think they made a mistake? you should use this energy to be looking for a summer job, not whining on college confidential. seriously! you could have a job already. and fall semester does not start for quite a while. haha. anyway, i love you all. so happy we are admitted. toot toot. see you on campus, or at UCB if we get in there.

@ UCkitty & everyone planning to live off-campus: How do you guys plan to get to school? I was doing a bit of reading on the parking situation. The permits are like 200 bucks and you have to apply for it so you may or may not get one. Parking is not guaranteed either. Any thoughts?

@iDizzle maybe if you move somewhere close to UCLA, you could take the bus. I’m gonna try to get a permit for a parking spot. I just hope parking is not as bad as it is in SMC Lol

haha northbeach, thanks.

how can i look for a summer job in LA anyways, i live in norcal, never been to socal.
