^^ I checked up on the parking too. You have to apply for a parking pass so you may or may not get one. Parking is also not guaranteed. Do you know if its 200 per quarter or per year?

okay, i checked. 204 per quarter for a commuter. guess i would need two per year. but i also want summer classes. would be pretty crazy to get rejected for parking. after getting admitted to the school. but i guess it might be common. carpool permits are cheaper, but who knows if you can always have a carpool.

^^ Yeah but I’d hate to pay 800 bucks a year just so I can park my car. =/. If it is 200 a year than maybe I could consider swallowing the cost but 200 a quarter? Hell no. lol

take the bus dudes

^ bus in LA? oh no, not me. happy to pay, whatever the cost. if i can get one! wanna live in santa monica. i am sure that i can find someone to commute with and share the costs. knowing california, the bust probably costs even more. heh heh

the bus in L.A. is actually pretty easy, and there are tons of passes you can get if you’re a frequent rider or a student. also extra points for having a bike, which makes carless transportation a lot easier imho.

students get discounted fare TAP cards, ride all the metro and subway lines for 50 bucks every quarter.

Guys, I’m starting to consider Davis over UCLA again. I got accepted as an anthro major to LA but as a comm(first choice) major at Davis. I looked at UCLA’s comm departments site and I started getting super excited while reading the curriculum and preparation for the job fields.

Talked to my bro too, he said there’s like a .5% chance that they will let me change my major. =[

then don’t compromise and just go to davis, what’s the big deal?

The big deal is because it’s UCLA! lol.

iDizzle, if you want to PM me, I can help you run down a pro/con list. Ultimately, it is very difficult to change your major once you are accepted as a junior-level transfer, and it is typically intra-departmental, so changing from anthro to comm at UCLA will prove nearly impossible. That being said, both majors offer great post-B.A. career opportunities, and both will provide sufficient educational preparation for grad school. Essentially, I think your main concern should be the major into which you’ve been accepted at either school, with location/price/etc being secondary factors.

^^Thanks, I will do that.

what you want to do>>>>>a school’s prestige

tbh.

@bougie: Yeah, that’s exactly how it is right now. What would you guys do in my position? Would you give up the prestige of going to the #2 public school in the nation for another school that can offer you what you really want out of college?

the latter, easy. i applied to berkeley as an art history major, if i got in i’d turn it down so fast. even if i hadn’t gotten into ucla’s art program, i’d go to ucsd or uci over berkeley. you just have to be honest with yourself about what you actually want to learn and do with your life.

^^Thanks man, that makes a lot of sense. I just keep thinking to myself that there is some way that I’ll be able to change majors. Kind of trying to justify it if I did choose LA. I’m thinking whether I would resent myself for the rest of my life if I gave up my chance to go to LA. And I don’t know if I would always feel some kind of jealousy towards my brother since he got into LA as a Japanese major but by some miracle was able to switch to Business Econ.

Whoa, I didn’t even know that was possible. If I was in this situation, I’d rather go to UCLA. If you can’t change major, take courses in comm so you have something to write about on your resume and gain some expertise. Make some friends in comm, go to their department for internships or whatever. If all else fails, in the grand scheme of things major doesn’t make much difference, for a lot of folks(obviously some it makes a huge diff). As far as school, you only get your undergrad degree once(usually)!

^^^ Yeah near impossible but he did it. LOL. I’ve heard that UCLAs connections to internships are incredible. So lets say I did attend LA for anthro, would I be able to get an internship in PR or advertising or something?

Also for what its worth, my gf’s brother graduated from Brandeis with a BA in psychology but he got a job at a PR firm in Beverly Hills. lol

Something you have to take into account, is that UCLA is SURROUNDED by so much opportunity. Forget the major for a sec, just being affiliated with UCLA is huge as opposed to students trying to get internships or jobs from CSULA, SMC, CSUN, etc. Also taking comm classes at UCLA(assuming you cant change major) is also going to line you right up with other great opportunities.

I used to live in Davis for 2 years, there is nothing around there lol. Closest thing is Sac and a long azz drive to SF. UCLA is in LA. That’s a game changer imo.

iDizzle- I think its definitely possible to get an internship in PR even if you major in anthro. My anthro prof is a manager of something (i cant remember what and unrelated to anthropology) for the city of Burbank. He said that there’s very little actual anthropology related jobs, mainly teaching, but since anthropology teaches you so much about people, you would probably be able to get a job in whatever is it you want to do :)
