scores seem fine and dandy

did you do anything significant in any of those clubs other than being VP of FLBA?

uhhh…not really
im sorta depending on the sports that ive participated in. especially track [state sectionals 13th place] but now i feel like thats not gonna really help me at all…

plus, a kid with who’s top 7% is applying to Northwestern ED, and i am too [ top 15% ]

does a kid with 15% top gpa have a good chance at Northwestern ED…?

well GPA is so subjective they really look at the courses youve taken along with ranking/percentile. it seems like a lot of your gpa boost has come from honors classes, while AP classes are considered more rigorous (at least at my school, where honors classes are calculated on a 4.0 scale like regular courses). I think it’s hard to say what the admissions officers will make of it, but you should still be a strong candidate–especially as an ED you show great interest in the school as is.

i am no expert on how sports figure into admissions (truly), so I can’t say how much track will affect your admission. It will be a plus for sure, just to what extent i don’t know.

have you taken any ap tests?

juniors at my school can only take up to 2 AP’s during junior year
Im taking AP Languange and Composition and AP US History
Ive taken the AP Exams and we’re getting the scores in late june or early july, i think
I think ive gotten 4’s on both.

but im worried cuz a top 7% kid will be doing Northwestern ED and i will to with a top 15% gpa…

What is your GPA unweighted?

You do have a lot of "B"s that might be a disadvantage

idk my unweighted gpa b/c my school didnt tell us that yet.
all i know is that it is around 4.13 weighted (top 15% out of 302 kids)

you need to find out your unweighted.

and dont worry about the other kid. he is irrelevant to your application.

any reason why your school caps junior year to 2 APs? I would think at a competitive HS they would engcourage more than that…

i have nooooo clue why
but we can take 5-6 APs in senior year
and thats what im doing

-gpa top 15%
-SAT 2250
-SAT2 two c 800
Lit 710
History 700
-mad sports / clubs / vp of FBLA club
-more than 130 hours of volunteer

i know my gpa is on the lowside for northwestern…but thats b/c ive been in regular classes in freshmen year [straight A-'s in regular classes]
but i cant do anything about my gpa anymore cuz junior year is almost over.

is there anything else i can do to raise my chances of getting accepted for ED?

i’m not sure what you can do at this point except write extremely good essays and get good recs. Do you have any awards or other things of recognition outside school? Or anything else with track, like a leadership position?

the only leadership stuff that i can think of is…

 • vp of FBLA
 • I was part of “Bag a lunch, save a bunch” it was a one-time organization thing in school that fundraised money to help poor people buy food
 • part of NHS
 • i’m currently the creator of a website where people all over the world can communicate to each other/ tell stories/current events in their cities/countries and such. It’s not that big, 3-5members so far, but its growing. Would this help? [ global-town.webs.com ]

or maybe getting our school track 4x4 relay team first place in county?

currently on the top 10 school records for 100m. would this help too? [but unfortunately, northwestern doesnt have track…i think]

you don’t have to keep repeating “vp of fbla” “top 15%” and such lol i got it.

the fundraiser and website probably won’t help really, so if that’s all, just work on your essays, keep in touch with the admissions office (but don’t contact them just because, have a legitimate reason), and when the time comes go book an interview with an alumnus. good luck~

i just realized that i repeated “top15%” like 5 times…LOL my bad
i guess i wanted to emphasize my not-so-good gpa cuz i feel like its too low for Northwestern.

but really, thank you for your advice !
