Naive question about applying to USC, easy to answer

So today I asked my two teachers for recommendations.

The first one said yes and that he wants to get it done rather quickly because I was one of the first to ask him and he expects more to come. So that's not a problem.

The second teacher said yes in a sort of reluctant way because she was almost at her limit for recs. She asked me if I needed it for an early action deadline, and I said no because the USC deadline for scholarship consideration is Dec. 1. She responded, "I love you!" because she wouldn't have to whip it up by Nov 1. like most early action.

Now, USC only requires one recommendation, but they say it's okay and sometimes good to have more than one. So after I submit my application, they will receive the rec from my first teacher because he finished it early on. Will they think my application is done? Will they make a decision before my 2nd teacher has a chance to send in her essay before the Dec. 1 deadline?

I guess my overall question is, will they not look at my application until the deadline has passed? If that's the case then I have nothing to worry about. I just want to be sure that both recs are taken into consideration.

Thanks all!

Gosh, you sound like my DS last year. To tell you the truth, I’m not sure if both of the teacher recs were actually received by USC – the whole rec thing is a little unclear. But I think they will add to your file up until Dec. 1 (or the week after) until they compile it for consideration. They certainly will tell you if any critical component is missing, so I think you really have nothing to worry about.

BTW, he’s a happy USC student now.

jax,

They will not look at your application or recommendations until the deadline. You can even send in recommendations after the deadline and they will still be considered. I would know, I sent in three, including one after the deadline. Good luck.

muchas gracias!
