OP here-
Hey all! Thank you all SO MUCH for helping!
I’ve decided to apply Early Decision to Emory. I really really really hope I get in…
After doing a lot more research I really don’t think I’ll find a university/student body that fits my personality better than Emory. Yeah, Atlanta and the South isn’t as great as Boston and Chicago and Emory might not be as “prestigious” or academically renowned as Northwestern, UVa, BC, ect but honestly after reading a lot of stuff about both schools it’s kinda crazy how similar Emory is to my personality.
Emory doesn’t really care much about sports (very strong pro actually haha); I’m more of the type of guy who would be proud of my school but not really that big on being loud and obnoxious about it. There’s a big intramural scene, kinda preppy/well-dressed ( I dress kinda preppy ) but not too much, tons of Koreans/Korean-Americans, it’s extremely diverse, academically focused, self-competitive yet collaborative, socially exuberant, greek life isn’t too overbearing but still exists and is strong ( might at least try it out ), mid-sized, decent distance to a major city ( wish ATL was a bit more accessible but oh well ), Northeastern/more liberal ideologies but still in the south, sunny weather (pretty rare in Boston!) , Goizueta has excellent job placement in the northeast.
I figured that the appeal of the Northeast might have stemmed from the fact that I have never actually visited there before. While snow might be cool at first, it might actually get kinda depressing after a while when there’s like 3 feet of it and the sun doesn’t shine for months haha.
At the same time, Emory can kind of act as an “escape” from the South that I’m looking for - but it still provides a back-up plan (staying in the south) in case I really don’t enjoy the Northeast as much as I imagined. Goizueta actually has very good placement in the Northeast (38%) but if I decide that I don’t enjoy NE as much as I thought I can still enjoy excellent job placement in the South. Emory will give me an ideological “taste” of the Northeast. But after I graduate and I really do crave the Northeast I can still enjoy it after college…
Really really really messy post but that’s basically why I’m choosing Emory in a nutshell. I can’t help but think it’ll be an awesome fit for me. Thank you all so much!
I really think I’m starting to grow up; I’m finally looking at more than just prestige.
*Also, we did Emory’s NPC and while it still is a lot pricier than UT, after financial aid my parents deemed the costs as definitely manageable.
