Named Scholarships

I was looking through my financial aid plan online and i found that part of my money was from Price Family Scholarship Fund. I was just wondering what this is all about.

You received a named scholarship (probably from an alumnus). Essentially, you fit a description of what that particular alumnus was looking for in a student.

You’ll be invited to a couple of programs because of that in the fall.

Here is the email I was sent in the fall when I first learned that I was a named scholarship recipient:

“I am writing to invite you to our annual New Student Pizza Parties – these are fun, informal events that give you a chance to meet and chat with other freshmen and upperclassmen scholarship recipients, as well as a few staff members from UGFA and Student Financial Services. And of course, there will be free pizza!”

You usually go on to meet the alumnus at a banquet later on in the year. I would encourage you to make every effort to meet the sponsor of your scholarship because you end up making great business contacts through the experience.

Do many students end up getting a named scholarship or are most students getting penn grants? I’m just sorta wondering because my i think my ed financial aid letter didn’t include the mention of a scholarship. I guess it’ll be cool to meet whoever is responsible for giving me an opportunity to go to Penn.

Same here – I got the World Scholars scholarship … I’d love to know about what it is

Basically, not everyone gets a named scholarship, but if you do get one, you receive a Penn grant AND a named scholarship. You get to find out info about your donor and whether or not you’ll have the opportunity to meet him/her in September or October.
