Excellent guide, thanks for posting.
That’s really a great resource.
A local journalist is going to feature my son’s story in her blog on Monday. She plans on including some links at the end of the piece, and she agreed to include this one, also. I put it on my FB page, too. I wrote that even if your child does not develop mental illness while in college, he or she most likely will know kids who do.
I thought this was really good.
I think more specifics could be included on accommodations through the Disability Office (single room, reduced course load, extensions etc.).
I think that with an already existing mental health condition, tuition refund insurance is a good idea.
There is mention of family history (genetics(, but overall this booklet tends to mention various stresses on campus as factors. Conditions like bipolar disorder 1 or schizophrenia are biological brain-based diseases. Many kids are stressed without developing mania or psychosis. And many who do develop those things are not under undue stress.
That said, of course, stress worsens things many times.
Very important guide. Truly needs to be shared more.
