woo! classic rock! THE DOORS!

hehe, just thought I should butt in.

i'll be leaving now.

toodles!

NAPS06, are you going to NAPS because of your age ineligibility at entering USNA?

No, it's just my math SAT score didn't break the 600 mark. It was a 580. BUT my reading score was 680.

Aren't there two other threads about NAPS?

Just a comment to those who get into NAPS.

Last month down at the USS Peleliu in San Diego they held a Holiday Reception for all candidates/alum of USNA/ current mids/Naps kids/ and anyone else they decided to invite. ( It was invitation only.)

As a parent with a child with an LOA - I know we aren't dealing with Naps - but it was the very first time I actually laid eyes on Naps kids. At first I couldn't recognize them. Their uniform is identical to mids....but once I started staring, I realized the difference was the "naps" on the collar instead of the anchor.

I was quite impressed with these Naps young people. They were just as proud, just as excited about their future appointments to USNA, just as great in their military bearing and were more than eager to share their experiences with other young people hoping to be in their shoes someday.

Lest folks think Naps is 'second best' - this mom begs to disagree. As long as USNA continues to send young people through NAPS in order to get them into USNA, the quality of these young people is something to cheer on! Bravo one and all to those of you receiving Naps offers for next year!

Admiral Tommy, yeah, there are a few other threads...but what the heck. start another one. see what happens.

why would anyone think NAPS is second best? I actually see it as a great combo...NAPS and USNA...kinda like those 99 cent combos at Taco Bell...

after all, when you get to USNA, you know the lay-out of the system, and you have 200 or so buddies from the year before who you can go to in a time of need.

NAPS graduates also usually become leaders at USNA.

I had four USNA graduates write recommendation letters for me, and 3 had graduated NAPS also. One is working for the CIA right now (after 5 years in the Corps), another is a Lt. Col, and the other is a Major. Not bad.

could an actual USNA midshipman write a recommendation?

heh...i love it how all the posts that start with NAPS NEVER end with NAPS

Technically anyone can write one.

My BGO just emailed me about a conversation with the XO of NAPS.

"Spoke with the XO at NAPS. NAPS will send the packages out sometime
in late March. They aren't sure about the Report Date - USNA is
reviewing the NAPS summer training so you may report as early as mid-July."

At least we now have a time frame for when our packages will come in.

so, uh, Aaron...want to write a recommendation for me? haha, im just joking around

mid-July is when this year's current m/c's reported in.

hey thats not such a bad idea...aaron do u wanna write a letter of rec for me to?! lol

i asked first!! haha

ah, aaron, i just want you to know, taht as a published author and midshipman to be...you're screwed. hehehe, im kidding.

SwimUSNA...what's your current applicant status?

haha well i know aaron better then U!!! lol jk

prob NAPS...Im waiting on higher SAT scores on Jan 28..then ill find out..whats ur status?!?! u live in San Juan that awesome...i went on a cruise from there in August!!!!

~Gina

i'm taking my SAT for the first time on Jan 28 as well...

i'm just a humble little junior...applying to NASS in Feb...

yeah, some friends of mine also went on some cruise during the summer...no idea if it was the same one, though

why would anyone think NAPS is second best?

[/quote]

You'd be surprised how many guys who didn't go to NAPS think that way (or at least did in my day). They learned quickly enough, though.

Back then, most people had never even HEARD of NAPS.

I stayed up till midnight on Jan 31 to make sure that my application was one of the first in on Feb 1..This will be my 10th time takin the SAT, i just cant manage to get a high score...I have study hours and have taken so many prep couses and online courses, i just cant seem to do very well...we were on the Princess cruise...we stayed a night in San Juan tho...the water was georgous and the waves were huge!!

~Gina

this will be my first time taking it...I also signed up for the April 1 SAT but I have to remove it because my Forensics competitions are that date. poopoo.

Where in San Juan? Old San Juan? That place is great...but it's also Bum Town. When the wind sweeps nicely across the streets, you can get a great smell in your face...the smell of urine....that's in some parts though.

When I was at the USS Peleliu reception, I stood with a BGO who was talking to one of his Naps kiddos...and told him :" I am so proud of you and what you're doing. I know you thought getting into Naps and not USNA right away was second best...but the Academy thought so highly of you they purposely put you in Naps...knowing you would complete the course to get your Appointment...so stand strong and proud."

So the kid himself once upon a time thought it was second best, I guess.
