Hi there! I've got my list narrowed down somewhat.. I was wondering if you guys could help me even more... I've got way too many right now. Anyways... I'm interested in studying neuroscience/cognitive science. I am an indie music lover. Well actually a music lover all around. Jazz, folk, rock... I'll listen to pretty much anything. I love volunteering and community outreach. I'm looking to go on a pre-med track too. Hmm... what else...Pretty campuses make me smile. Um.. I think I'm sort of quirky. So... quirkiness is cool. Right. Yeah... Any suggestions on what to cut out? Or if you have any new suggestions I guess that works.. but I'd rather just have the list shortened... I like using ellipses if you haven't noticed.

Northwestern (cognitive science)
Columbia (neuroscience and behavior)
Georgetown (neurobiology)
Notre Dame (Biology)
U of Pennsylvania (Biological Basis of Behavior/Cognitive Science)
Yale (cognitive science)
Duke (neuroscience)
Boston College (biology)
Stanford (Organismal Biology;basically neuroscience)
WashU (PNP/neuroscience)
UMichigan (neuroscience)
Emory (Neuroscience and behavioral biology)
Rice (cognitive science)
Tulane (neuroscience)

If you’re that into neurobiology, it doesn’t seem like Stanford or Notre Dame has the program for you. However, your major choice may change. If you apply to Tulane as soon as school starts and get in before your RD applications are due in December (if you are of the caliber to apply to all of these schools, you will get at least a 20K merit scholarship as long as you apply VERY EARLY), I see no reason to narrow this list down until after you have acceptances in hand.

These schools are all pretty different though. If you’re definitely for science, I would eliminate Georgetown.

thanks. ill take out georgetown. stanford has neuroscience… they just dont call it neuroscience. and i know notre dame doesnt have it. i just love notre dame so much and dont want to take it off. i think ill take out boston college too bc it doesnt have a program and i dont love it nearly as much as nd

I think I’ll definitely apply to Tulane then. I looked and it seems their essay requirements are pretty lax so it should be relatively easy to apply early.

Tulane is actually really nice. I went down there (I got a 25k merit scholarship) and the honors program seems wonderful, yet you’re not separated from other students like you would be in an “honors college.” I felt like I would fit in well there and be adequately challenged. If you don’t get into any other schools, you definitely would not be “settling” for Tulane.

I’m always hesitant about paying OOS tuition for a public school… it usually seems to be the trend in my mind that I’d like to be paying for the small class sizes and resources of a private school if I’m going to be paying that much anyways. idk whether that’s part of your considerations, but yeah. haha
