Narrowing the list

Have you looked at or considered Susquehanna University in Pennsylvania? Or Trinity University in Texas?

let me come back to Rice and Barnard vis-a-vis creative writing and library science. I know Barnard has a good English department and Rice has a surprisingly good one for the kind of school it is. Barnard is better in creative writing generally, but creative writing instruction can be a clicking of personalities so a visit and meeting with some of the instructors, like poet Mark Strand, is a good idea. On the other hand, I’m not sure why you’d choose Barnard or Rice for library science since I don’t believe either offers an undergrad program in this field. Carnegie Mellon, for instance, has both.

Mt Holyoke might be a good fit; it is generally considered to be more conservative than Smith, for example, and its science programs are well-respected, with the added advantage of the 5-college consortium (although Mt Holyoke is the furthest away of the schools). I don’t believe it has a party reputation.

Thanks guys. I will have her look at Susquehanna. I would say Rice or Trinity, but she wants to get to cooler weather! lol I tried to get her to look at Mt. Holyoke since I was accepted there billions of years ago, but no luck. Not sure why. Carnegie Mellon is worth a look, too, I suppose. And thanks halfemptypockets for the comment re: Big Bang… that keeps Lafayette on our list! Also, @MrMom62 thanks for the information on Hamilton. That is her top choice right now and it eases her mind about any of her reservations. Thanks everyone!!!
