I guess now I just wait to hear back? When is the best time to contact my nomination sources to get on their radar?
Thanks

next step... is to hurry up and wait...and wait...and wait!

would hold off on the nomination sources till May or so.... some MOC offices have just finished getting out the noms for 2011, and no doubt they will take some down time before tackling 2012... so send a letter stating your interest around May.

In the meantime, while you are busy with all this waiting stuff (best to get used to that), do remember to keep up with your studies, SATs, and enjoy what's left of your junior year!

(what you can do around May or so is approach your 11th grade english and math teacher, and mention that you will be requesting a recommendation from them in early September.... with more and more kids applying ED and EA, some teachers want those requests in my June of Junior year....each school is different so do check with your guidance office, but approaching your teachers should at least let them know that you will be asking)....

If your MOC's are like ours they have all that information on there websites. Check there first. Our MOC's here in Idaho would start taking information right after the first of the year. Just don't wait too long.

Probably would not be too early to find out who your local Blue & Gold Officer (BGO on these posts) is, and make some sort of introduction there. The BGO will be a key person to help you through this entire process and to have as a mentor/friend. Also, extra-curricular activities (ECs) are key (student gov't, etc... you can see the list on the preliminary application, and on most college applications. Redundancy reigns.) So, don't join groups just to join them for a resume, but, hopefully, you have a history of involvement, and that is essential to maintain. Finally, from what I've seen/heard from both NASS into being accepted: Get fit & Stay fit. It's not too early to do a bit more physically, even for NASS. My son (S) took his Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA) at NASS and topped it out there; it was one less thing he had to schedule & do during the remainder of the application process. We purchased a book entitled "The Naval Academy Candidate Book" by Wm. Smallwood. While a bit aged and perhaps old-school, it still had sage advice for both he/us (parents). Answered a lot of questions that we might have asked otherwise. And, the folks on this post (parents, BGOs, alums, current Mids) can fill in a lot of the remainder. All the best to you in this quest and process!

empire...I admire your spunk... My Plebe did what you did, applied to NASS on the first hour of the opening. She heard within 2 weeks of her application. West Point and Air Force responded within days of the app....so Navy sometimes is slower on the curve. She heard first actually in an email as well from USNA, then came the letter. Good luck!

And the advice to contact your BGO is one I concur with. You can contact that person anytime. My kiddo contacted hers in freshman year of high school she wanted an Appointment so badly. Turned out not be such a bad plan in her case, as she definitely achieved her dream.

While you're waiting, study for your SAT's. Plan to take them a couple of times. There are several study aids for this.

Take all peskemum has to tell you with the full knowledge that her daugter is Superman's sister. And she's NOT even subject to kryptonite!

This is true. Peskemom is the bomb diggety! Font of knowledge and compassion! I am totally serious. She's still the one I go to today.

Whistlepig, you're cute and kind, thank you for your endorsement.

But for the record one and all Whistlepig in a private email asked me if my daughter had ever experienced failure - a very imporant and insightful question and I responded with a long, true, heartbreaking story of her quest to land a CIF swim time...a 4 year goal all through high school that no amount of her hours and hours of work/practice/coaching caused to happen with success. So yeah, there must have been kryptonite at least in all those pool waters in her case! Just thought I'd mention it in case people think she really does walk on water! :-)

No matter. She has a close friend who does. ;) very!

I sent in my application too! Stayed up and sent it within the first 15 minutes. I can't wait for April. In the meantime... it's time to conquer the SATs.

Does anyone have any idea when the best time to take the SATs are? I took the SAT in December and did horrible. Thanks.

You should be able to take them around May, I think. Go to collegeboard.com and do their stuff online. No lie, my son raised his SAT's 300 pts.

You can also get the SAT question of the day from collegeboard.com. That's what I get, and they give you an explanation for the answer as well. They also give a free practice test. Then there's also number2.com and that also has SAT prep stuff...

Thanks! Will do.
