Thanks! And we wouldn't want to forget that deodorent, now would we? ;)

I need to go searching for my page, don't we also need things such as an ID?

^^^^^
You'll need an ID to get on/off the Yard. This Saturday, my duaghter made the mistake of using her expired military ID card to get on the Yard which resulted in the guards confiscating it.

ahh thanks I forgot about the ID

My mom swears that I need immunization records. I don't remember needing them... Do you have any idea about that?

My son is attending this week. He took a letter with him from the academy that said it was required to gain entrance. Also photo ID....nothing about immunizations though

I went last year and you do not have to have any immunization records. Be sure to bring an old pair of sneakers to chunk after sea trials.

What does the letter say? I need to try and see if i still have mine

It was a confirmation letter. It was sent by itself-he actually got 2 of them. It states in Bold letters"This Letter and an official photo ID are Required for Entrance to the Naval Academy

About the linens... What is the best to bring?

Is anyone bringing a small blanket to sleep with?

Im bringing a sleeping bag I think , instead of a blanket or somthing but they say that it gets pretty hott so I dont know if I will need the sleeping bag

List from a male ex-NASSer:

Socks (10-15)
Underwear (10-15)
Gym Shorts (3-7)
The clothes you came in (kahki shorts, nice polo or similar)
Granola/Energy bars (a few)
Small Fan
Towels (2)
Trash bag/Laundry bag
Fabreeze
Pillow
Light linens/sheets
Light blanket
Toiletries (plan accordingly...advil, bodywash (can double as shampoo), etc.... girls don't worry about makeup, you probably won't have time and no one cares anyway)

Explanations:

When I went (last year) I slept in my clothes most of the time to save morning time so sheets weren't a big need.

I wouldn't recommend taking a sleeping bag (I took one and never used it...was a pain to carry). Plus the environment was pretty comfortable in Bancroft...outside was a different matter.

I also brought a small fan which helped to dry some things (we tried to wash some clothes in the shower...worked well enough ;-)).

I saw lots of snacks and power bars and drink mixes on the list at the beginning of this topic. I recall taking a few granola bars and Gatorade mixes but not really using much of it. I tend to not eat much as it is though so plan according to your food "needs".

Socks and underwear were the biggies I'd say. You tend to sweat a lot and will get wet and sandy at times.

You WON'T need an alarm clock. It is graciously provided for you via cadre ;-).

You probably won't have much time to take photos, nor will you want to carry around a camera but I'd suggest your parents bring one to get pictures after NASS.

Also, I'm not sure why you would need a lock unless you didn't trust your roommates, but you probably won't have any valuables really worthy of locking up.

Remember, your squad leader will turn in a report about you at the end so be on your best behavior but don't be a butt kisser! Be yourself.

What is recommended to wear on arrival day for females?

Hey Wafflebear... My daughter wore plaid bermuda shorts, t-shirt and flipflops last year.

Daughter also says DEFINITELY bring Pillow and sheets or sleeping bag. Hers was lost by airlines first 2 days and her squad leader had to find something for her to use.

Her one thing she said DO NOT FORGET is FEBREEZE as everything will smell bad from sweat, mud, etc.

And one decent pair of running shoes and one pair to toss after sea trials as they will be destroyed.

She also said DEF bring the camera. She came home with tons of great photos of herself and squadmates, Iwo Jima memorial and the Yard.

And take your sense of humor and a great attitude and you will have one of the best weeks of your life!!

I sent a bottle of Febreez with the boy. Begged him to give the tennis shoes from sea trials a proper burial at sea. Thank God he did!

Mine took no pictures (he KNOWS I scrapbook!!), called home only once (you really don't have time to call home you are VERY busy), but had the experience of a lifetime that absolutely solidified his mission to get in.

Oh, and for those whose parents get buddy passes to go back to the airplane gate with you, be kind to your parents, especially your mom. I cried so much, my husband bought buddy passes.

You don't really need food. They feed you enough (even for a vegetarian) haha. I didn't get any problems with being a veg up there. Hopefully I won't this summer either. :) Bring a good bathing suit for sea trials. You'll get gross. DOn't be annoying about changing in front of other people either. I was annoyed with those people. Someone in my room was anal about changing in the shower when we were in there. You don't have time to be modest.

Big huge thing that *ed me off:
If you're in ROTC, don't be an idiot. There was a girl in my squad who was in ROTC and she assumed that she knew everything and was completely obnoxious to the squad leader and every other cadre. She thought she knew everything about the rates and ranks and especially drill. She most likely got an awful review from our squad leader and she *ed all of us off.
Please don't be like that.

Have fun. I've heard from everyone it's a very limited view of the academy, but some people definetly get a good feel of it. As soon as I got on the Yard i knew that's where I was going to school. :)

Nurseypoo.. do you want me to email you Lola's pics from NASS?? for your scrapbook.. I feel bad you didnt get any :(

Nah, it's okay. I've already scrapbooked that year. Plus, it's my guilt chit, although it's not working well with him.

Note to Nass-ers: TAKE PICTURES IF YOU CAN!!

Oh I can't believe I forgot shoes! Yeah a sturdy pair or running shoes and one pair you wouldn't mind never seeing again will be good.

Also, try not to drop out on the runs. They REALLY shouldn't be hard for you but if they are, keep telling yourself that it'll be over around the next turn and keep believing that.
