National Achievement

Just got word today that I am a semifinalist. 207 in Mid Atlantic (unless MD is part of the Northeast). Another girl from my school also made it with a 206

So the letters did go out.

I think they just went out because my guidance counselor said she just got the letter yesterday. They won’t be sent to your house for a while though.

I’m extremely nervous. CRC016, why do you say they won’t arrive at homes for a while?

That is what my guidance counselor told me. She was skimming through the letter that was sent to the school with instructions on following through and it said in big bold letters “Do not give this letter to students.” But she said that I should be getting notifcation in the mail soon (whatever “soon” is)

187 made it in MS. I’m not sure what region I am in but I made it!!! Yay!! Good luck everyone!

I just talked to national merit, the letters went out last Friday vs last Tuesday, so be paient. The press realease date is later 9/25 vs 9/11. I haven’t heard anything yet.

Does anyone know what the regions are? For instance, LDGQQQ made it with a 187 from MS. So I know anyone in MS who has at least a 187 also made it, correct? But if it is done by region, than what other states is MS with where at least a 187 would make it?

HSG

p.s By the way, congrats LDGQQQ!

Aw man, what is soon.
Praying

Found this at the bottom of the VERY long National Merit Thread, where updates are being posted for National Merit AND National Achievement.
205 made it in Texas per GC

im just going to start a new thread for this

Thanks @hsgrad. I’m not quite sure what the cutoff is. My score is pretty close to it though I believe.

Just heard from GC. D2 made NA Semi in CA with PSAT 209.

Congrats! but in the other thread we already had confirmation that the cutoff was less than or equal to 205 in region 4, which is where cali is

Now only if someone can show up with a 196 in region 4

Wow, then it looks like my daughter made in with a 206 in NJ!!
Does anyone know how high the SAT should be to make finalist status? (Her superscore is a 2150.)

@picktails cograts! The confirming score needed(one sitting) is a 1960 SAT for national merit and I would venture that the national achievement is about 10 points lower. So you daughter is fine, all she needs is a passable essay and no disciplinary violations and less than two Cs on the transcript.

I spoke with College Board picktails and they said the following criteria for NA Finalists apply:

confirmation SAT score (close to PSAT x10) for single sitting (e.g., they look at the highest single sitting not superscore); the cutoff will be different, possibly, as NA is done by region

endorsement by school principal to include comment on challenging courseload, discipline violations

grades As and Bs nothing lower; no GPA cutoff; I did not confirm if Cs will cut it, especially if they are in APs or Honors classes. D2 had all As and Bs in mostly Honors or AP courseload, so she’ll probably make.

I do not know when the essay is due. It is not required to make Finalist but is considered to advance to earn the $2,500 scholarship.

When in doubt, just call. The College Board staff are extremely helpful. To double check, don’t rely on CC, just check the web site at [National Merit Scholarship Corporation - NASP](http://www.nationalmerit.org/nasp.php) or call. If your S or D made NA Semi, there is an upcoming deadline in October which must be met (I believe it’s October 11). This is only for NA Semis and not for Outstanding Participants.

Thank you yoskis. I did not see that.
