Morning everyone,
I received a letter today asking my family to confirm my participation in the 2014 National achievement program. In certain ways, the letter was quite ambiguous. It said something akin to me being recognized as a scholar by confirming my participation. So at this point I'm not sure if I've been accepted. Could anyone enlighten me?

P.S. I scored a 199 on the Psat.

Congratulations! Are you home-schooled?
I am not an expert and others certainly know but there are several posts on the African-American students forum that you may want to check out.

Have you taken the SAT? If not, sign up for one this spring or early fall. Keep your grades up and return the paperwork. Expect notification in late August or early September.

I am indeed!
I took the October SAT for the first time and scored a 2100.

Hi there!! I’m a current National Achievement Finalist, also homeschooled. I don’t remember ever receiving the letter you mentioned, I think my first communication with NMSC was the letter saying I made it to the quarterfinalist stage. Maybe they added that this year, to double check that you actually want to be a part of the scholarship?

Ah, panther0, do you mind me asking what score and region you were in?
I’m looking at the letter now, it says -

“Before we prepare the rosters of the Black American high school students to be recognized in the 2014 NA program, we ask for your assistance in confirming that your student’s request to participate was not made in error. It is important to us to remove from consideration those students who did not understand the limited scope of this competition or who marked in error the national achievement program section 14 of the answer sheet.
The enclosed form names your home schooled student in your school who requested entry to the 2014 national achievement program and will be recognized publicly as a high performing participant in this competition, unless you inform us that the student’s request was made in error.”

No problem, I got a 209 in TX.

I never saw a letter like that, so unless one of my parents got it and didn’t tell me (highly unlikely), we weren’t sent that.

DS was called into the counselor’s office yesterday and was asked to confirm that he wants to participate in National Achievement. I did not get a letter, so I assume that the letter was sent to the school. He lives in CA and earned a 197 on PSAT.

^God, I hope I get one 196 in Iowa, same region as CA.

Same thing happened with my son. The school got a letter to confirm his participation. We were guessing that since the Achievement program is meant for African-American students, this was a check to make sure the student did not mis-represent him/herself. Don’t know … just a guess.

What is odd to me is that the letter is worded as if it’s just confirming your participation, but it then says -
“…and will be recognized publicly as a high performing participant in this competition…”

The ambiguity is destroying me!
