National Acievement

Have notifications already been sent/received?

If I recall correctly, my kid received the notification early to mid-Sept. If you have qualified for semi-finalist, you will know by October.

You may want to check with your guidance counselor.

Yep. You should have heard by now. I suggest contacting NMC @ (847) 866-5100 ask to be connected to Natl Achiv. GL!

I think your application is due by October.
Mine needs to be returned to my school by the 28th (so my counselor can write the rec). Go check!

So does anyone know if this award is significantly less prestigious than national merit?
They announced the National Merit Semi-Finalists at my school but not my name… :/

It is less…well known…most people have never heard of it. But I think it has value in several ways.

decanela,
NMC should be publishing Natl Achievements on 9/30. See link on some additonal inof on Natl Achievement.

[National Merit Scholarship Corporation - NASP](http://www.nationalmerit.org/nasp.php)

Decanela, check with your guidance counselors. Some are unaware(!!!) of NAS, especially if you are at a predominantly white high school.

I agree with Shrinkrap about the value of the designation. Your mailbox will be overflowing with brochures and such. Offers of scholarships (with conditions), offers of visits (free) and waivers of application fees are some that I remember.

Well my counseler is the one who told me I qualified and gave me the info and such. It was my principal presenting the announcement who did not mention NAS winners but did mention NMS winners. I’m just noticing now that the announcement is a couple weeks later for NAS though, thanks for pointing that out! We’ll see what happens…

I stumbled across this old thread. It may help answer some questions. As you can see we had quite a few ourselves. Hope it helps.

PS somewhere in that thread, you will find a list of schools that offer “free rides”.
