How impressive does that look on an application? I'm planning to take 9-11 AP's, but three or four of them will be in senior year, so I can't get Nat AP Scholar for my application. My question is, should I try to take the AP's scheduled for my senior year in my junior year so I can get the award? Is it worth it?

Taking 3 or 4 extra AP’s on top of already stressful junior sounds like an awful lot to take on!

It’s better to spread the tests out instead of doing them all at once. It would be cool to get one for future resumes, or for college application/resume if you can pull it off your junior year, but I wouldn’t worry too much about getting National AP Scholar. It is not that big of a deal (although it is a HUGE accomplishment). At least plan to get it your senior year.
Besides, there would be no point taking all those APs if you are going to stress out and fail on all of them. Also, you wouldn’t have much time for other ECs and community service, which colleges take highly into consideration. Take your time.

It all depends on you; if you think you can handle the stress and workload, go ahead. It also depends on what APs you’re taking, because some of them are really easy (i.e. statistics and English lang) but some are pretty hard (physics B and chemistry). If you have more of the easy AP classes, it’s not going to be bad at all. I took 7 APs this past year (as a junior) and it wasn’t that hard because I had 4 pretty easy APs and 3 harder ones, 1 of which really worried me (chemistry, of course).
Remember, to get the National AP Scholar award, you need to get 4s and 5s on all your AP exams.

So thelemonisinplay did you win National AP Scholar?

thelemonisinplay, how many AP’s have you completed so far?

Here is my AP plan:
Sophomore year: AP Bio (self study), AP Calc BC, APUSH
Junior year: AP Stats, AP Chem, AP Psych (self study), AP Lang/Lit (self study)
Senior year: AP Physics C (both)

Calc BC as a sophomore? Wow what math are you planning on taking for the 2 years after?

@acdunk543 I don’t know for sure yet, since scores only come out July 8. But I’m pretty sure I’ll make it.

@TeamRocketGrunt I have taken 10 so far, and I’m taking 7 more this year (as a senior).

And wow yeah, BC as a sophomore? Dang son, that’s pretty impressive. Are you going to do independent study for math (if your school lets you do that) or will you save those empty spots for other classes?

thelemonisinplay, wow 17 AP’s? Damn. I’m planning to take 9/10 in my entire high school career lol. I might take a few extra ones in my senior year if I have time. Which ones have you taken/will you take?
I took Alg. I as an eighth grader and Alg. II and Geometry this past year. I’m planning to do Trig and Adv. Alg first semester, and Calc BC my second semester. I’ll probably end up self studying for it anyway, since my current school has idiotic teachers. Hopefully this problem will be resolved when I go to the state’s math and science school in my junior and senior years.

acdunk, I’m going to take AP Stats my junior year and maybe Differential Equations my senior year (I hear DE is above AP Calc and Stats)

Do you guys recommend taking the class if I’ve already done the material? If I drop the class, I can take French III instead.

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Stat significantly easier than Calc BC? Why, the. Would someone take a class on that when he/she can take multivariable calc after BC, which is far more complex and rigorous?

Haha, the reason I’m taking so many is partly because of my school’s curriculum requirements and partly of my own volition. Let’s see… Freshman year I took human geo. Soph year I took Comp Sci A and World History. As a junior I took USH, Stats, Chem, Physics B, Biology, English Lang, and Calc AB. (Yeah, all 3 sciences in one year. It was great, lolz.) I will be taking Govt, Econ (Macro), Spanish Lang, English Lit, Psychology, Enviro, and Calc BC. I also have a senior thesis.

@acdunk You’re correct, stats is in fact one of the easiest APs around. You could definitely self-study it with no issues.

I don’t think the award matters much to college. Other national awards matter much more to colleges.

My school only offers 14, and I am taking 10 of them.
