I think what helps is that you have taken a lot of APs and done well on the tests. However, this particular award adds absolutely nothing to your application, since you will already be listing the exams you took and the grades, and all the award says it that you took those exams and got those grades. I suppose you could put it in if you don’t have anything else to list but I don’t think it adds anything and I wouldn’t omit something that adds to your application in order to list it. I would list NMF over this because you don’t report your PSAT scores so at least that adds some information that isn’t already given in the application.
well, i ended up putting it in the honors section of my common app, and I was accepted ED, so I guess it ended up helping my application
Can you say where? It might be helpful to other students to know which schools value AP Scholars.
I was accepted ED to Columbia University
@grunterbaum1 Son had it as one of 10 award entries in his CommonApp to Princeton. He was accepted SCEA in December. As said previously, it is useful to show rigor.
On his resume, under the award, he listed the courses and the scores (all fives except a four in Spanish). Listing the courses showed he didn’t take “fluff” AP courses like Human Geography.
My D earned the AP scholar award as a junior and has put it in the honors section of her App. There is no reason not to. I think it is a little unfair to call any of the APs fluff. Surely they are all rigorous. My D self-studied AP psych as she has genuine interest in it and was able to demonstrate that on the common app. I know that is also regarded as one of the “easier” APs, but if a student is genuinely interested in a subject, they should take it or self study it. It is still an Advanced Placement subject. If a student does well it shows he/she studied well, comprehended well, did the necessary work and was intelligent enough to handle the material. I don’t think it’s fair to say AP Physics is more important than AP Human Geography, just becasue the later isn’t as difficult a subject. If a student is interested, they should go for it.
