National AP Scholar

is the national AP scholar (take 8 or more ap tests with average of 4) recognition significant for college apps?

yes, especially if you're ale to claim so at the time of your application, having taken 8 tests when a junior or earlier.

Having taking 8 exams before you have finished senior year is always an impressive feat.

Anyone have any idea of how much weight it can carry?

The colleges that care about such issues will mostly be looking at your AP scores themselves.

National AP scholars before college application season number in the hundreds nationally, as I recall, so it's not a lock on admission, but it's persuasive evidence you're ready for college courses.
