national awards

I'm very passionate about music, but I'm not a nationally ranked musician etc... not many awards.. but I do alot around the community w/ music founded a lot of little ensembles and leadership positions..etc
will these compensate for the lack of awards?

thanks

yes, passion counts more than minor awards. But national or international level awards counts a lot more in admission as per my observation. How many people get major awards. So you are fine and better than most applicants who has nothing at all.

sunsun - out of curiosity, did your son apply as an international? i'm assuming from your posts (what you mentioned etc.) that you are from hongkong? could you give me more information about your son and his interview etc. etc. pm me if you want! =) thx a bunch!

It's difficult.. Music seems to be a common passion, so you really need to do something extraordinary in order to have it count as a semi-hook.

what kind of extraordinary things? Playing at Carnegie Hall?

Winning national/international recognition. But in your case, you might want to be more proactive with your music (e.g. hosting a benefit concert?). -Genuine- initiative can always help.
