National Chemistry Olympiad 2010 (local)

Discuss! What did you guys think about it?

I’d taken 3 practice tests, two from recent years, and one from more than 10 years ago. I’d say it was in the middle in terms of difficulty.

My daughter took it yesterday and said there were six problems of the 60 that she really didn’t have any idea about, so for her it was easier than AP Chem test. She was surprised at the number of calculational problems this year (17), which seemed higher than usual for recent local tests. Her studying for this test consisted of going out to dinner with dad (a university chem lecturer) on Sunday through Thursday of test week to review old exams and learn some new material. Fourteen kids at her magnet high school took the test, so now we wait and see.

^ When do we find out who moves on to the next round?

By late March, I believe. Anyone wanna discuss questions? :D

The local sections have until March 31 to administer the test, so I wouldn’t expect to hear anything before then. They move pretty fast after that, releasing the answer key and sending copies of the national exam to local sections by April 5. I’m guessing we’ll hear something the first week of April.

^So… don’t discuss the local exams until after March 31…

what did you guys think? whats the best place to get practice stuff

Huh?? Our school already has the results. All four participants at our school moved on.

I may be thinking of a different level… but i dont think so. They qualified for the one in Springfield.

what did you think of the test

^ If you’re talking to me, I didn’t take it lol. I’m in AP Chem, but didn’t want to endure the studying that would come with the preparation for the test.

Does anyone have links to good study materials (beyond previously administered tests) for the National Exam?

do questions repeat from year to year? who took the test here

if you look at previous tests, you will notice that questions always repeat (in different, tricky ways that is)

anyone wanna discuss the test? PM Me

I got a 56/60 and am moving on to Round Two!

I got 58! I am so excited!

congrats guys, how do you know you’re advancing? i got 52/60

Get top 2 in your school…

anyone want to discuss the problems on the local exam
if so just PM me

I’m so jealous that all of you guys have gotten your scores. Our teacher hasn’t received ours yet.
